Shooting Press Release From Bates County Sheriff
| Bennett R. Ivlow |

On
6/25/13, Bennett R Ivlow W/M 4/23/80 a convicted felon from Montrose Missouri,
was arrested by the Bates County Sheriff’s Office and has been charged with 4
Counts of Assault 2nd Degree, 2 Counts of Armed Criminal Action and
2 Counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child in the 1st
Degree. Ivlow’s bond was set by Judge
Hopkins at $80,000 cash only.
The
charges come from an incident on 6/25/2013.
Bennet’s ex-girlfriend, Ashley Walker of Belton went to Bennet’s
residence in Montrose with Bennet’s sister, Marna Ivlow, to pick up their two
minor children. Walker left the
residence with the two children and was driving back toward Butler on H Highway
when Bennett and his father, Denver Ivlow W/M 9/15/44 (69), began chasing them
in a vehicle. Denver passed the vehicle
with Walker and the children and forced it to stop in the middle of the
roadway. At that point Bennett exited
his father’s vehicle and fired one round from a .45 caliber handgun. The bullet entered the windshield just above
the wipers and stopped in the dash of the vehicle. Bennett’s sister Marna, the driver of the
Walker vehicle, sped off around Denver’s vehicle continuing toward Butler. Denver continued to chase the Walker vehicle
leaving his son Bennett along the roadway.
Denver
again passed the Walker vehicle and came to a stop in the middle of the roadway
forcing the Walker vehicle to stop once again.
Denver then put his vehicle in reverse and rammed the front of the
Walker vehicle. The Walker vehicle was
able to drive around Denver’s vehicle again and continued on into the Butler
area. The two victims flagged down a Deputy
at a gas station in Butler and reported the incident to him.
Denver
and Bennett returned home to Montrose and called the Henry County Sheriff’s
Office and attempted to report the two children, ages 3 and 4 as victims of a
kidnapping. Members of the Bates County
Sheriff’s Office, Henry County Sheriff’s Office and the Missouri State Highway
Patrol responded to the residence of the Ivlow’s. Both Ivlows were brought to the
Bates
County Sheriff’s Office to complete the investigation.
Additional
charges are being reviewed by the Bates County Prosecutor on both subjects.
Missouri State Highway Patrol Cracking Down on DWIs
Captain Robert L. Powell, commanding officer of Troop A, Lee's Summit, announces there will be DWI checkpoints and DWI saturations conducted in the Troop A area during the month of July.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol, along with the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department, will conduct DWI checkpoints in Jackson County between now and the end of July. This operation is an effort by both law enforcement agencies to remove intoxicated drivers from Missouri's highways. The checkpoint will consist of officers stopping drivers at a set location and testing those who have been drinking.
In addition to the checkpoints, the Missouri State Highway Patrol will be conducting DWI saturations in Cass County, Henry County, and Platte County throughout the month of July. Troopers assigned to the saturations will concentrate their efforts on highways which have been found to have a high number of alcohol-related crashes and enforcement contacts.
A sobering fact is that impaired driving contributes to 27 percent of all Missouri fatal traffic crashes. In 2012, 219 people were killed and 3,513 injured in crashes involving an impaired driver. That’s why the Missouri State Highway Patrol, along with other law enforcement agencies, will continue to crack down on drunk driving throughout the year.
Captain Powell stated, "Impaired driving is not just a law enforcement problem. It is a community problem. We urge all citizens to report any driver they observe operating a vehicle in an unsafe manner.” The public can contact the Missouri State Highway Patrol toll-free at 1-800-525-5555 or *55 on their cellular phone.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol encourages motorists and watercraft operators to protect themselves by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint, and everyone in a vessel is wearing an approved personal floatation device.
