Bates County Sheriff's Department Press Release: Shots Fired At Sheriff's Deputy Residence


On 12/21/13, The Bates County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shots fired call in rural Amsterdam.  The residence was that of a Bates County Sheriff’s Deputy.  The Deputy advised that an unknown pickup truck stopped in front of his house on the gravel road.  The Deputy heard a gunshot followed by additional two rapid gunshots.  

The Deputy called for assistance but could not get a description of the truck.  The truck and its unknown occupants left the area of the Deputies house and traveled south on the gravel road.   Deputies arrived on scene and began to canvas the area.  Deputies talked with several neighbors who stated that they heard the shots but did not get a description of the truck. 

 At the time of the incident the Deputy’s children were not at home.  The Bates County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information from the public about the identity of the suspects involved. 

 “Situations like this just remind us as police officers that just doing our jobs will make us targets for the would be thug.” said Sheriff Anderson.   

 “Despicable actions like this will not discourage or intimidate us from continuing to do our jobs.“

There is a $500 Reward for the information that leads to an arrest and conviction of the person or people involved.   If you have information in this case or any other crimes please contact the Bates County Sheriff’s Office at 660-679-3232

St. Clair County Sheriff's Office Press Release: Stolen truck found burning



Stolen truck found burning
On Dec. 20, at 4:57 a.m. a deputy was dispatched to SE 375 Road, Collins, regarding a possible vehicle fire. Once on scene, the deputy observed a 1999 F350 Ford four door dually burning. A check of the area was made and no one was located. Firefighters from Collins Fire Protection District arrived and extinguished the fire.

The deputy observed a radiator and front bumper in the bed of the truck and wheels being held on by four of the eight lug nuts. Two of the four rear tires and rear fenders were also missing. A check of the truck revealed it was stolen from Lafayette County. Lafayette County was notified and a tow service was called to take possession of the vehicle.

St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office News Release: Property damage at Concord Cemetery

 On Friday, Dec. 20, at 9:02 a.m. a deputy was dispatched to Concord Cemetery near Lowry City regarding property damage. Gary Noakes, a cemetery board member, reported 52 headstones were damaged sometime between Dec. 19 at 1 p.m. and Dec. 20 at 8 a.m. Damage was estimated at $10,000. The deputy observed 52 headstones knocked over or an attempt was made to knock them over.

The investigation revealed the headstones were in place with no damage on Dec. 20 at 7 a.m. Evidence was located and seized from the scene and the case is still being investigated.

KMOE Off The Air On FM Side Of The Radio


The Ice is overpowering the FM-92 Radio Station Tower. The AM 1530 is going strong and still on the air. Join us on the AM side and you won't miss a thing. AM-1530 from 7:30 am to 5 pm. It is unknown at this time as to when the FM will be back on the air.

Weather Update: Arctic Chill

 
Bitterly cold air will grip the area this morning through tomorrow. Expect wind chill readings from minus 10 degrees to minus 20 degrees this morning and from mi...nus 15 degrees to minus 30 degrees possible on Tuesday morning. If you must go outside...bundle up and limit exposure through noon Tuesday. For Christmas Day and the rest of the week...temperatures will rebound somewhat with readings near freezing. There may be a few flurries this morning especially in extreme eastern Kansas and western Missouri...but no accumulation is expected.

Water Main Break In Butler


The Butler Street and Water Department is on scene of a water Main Break on Nursery Street just East of Olive Street here in Butler. The water is freezing onto the roadway and causing a slick mess. Bates County Live will update this when the break has been fixed.

Weather Update: Very Cold Weather Coming


If your out and about tonight, be careful for black ice as roads refreeze with the plummeting temperatures. The cold temperatures will come with a modest wind, which will make it feel even colder as wind chill values drop below zero Monday morning. Bundle up before heading out. Even colder temperatures expected Tuesday morning.

2 Vehicle Accident Yesterday On I-49 Around Rich Hill


Around 6:57 pm yesterday The Missouri State Highway Patrol assisted by Rich Hill Fire Department responded to a two vehicle accident just north of Rich Hill on I-49 at mile marker 123.4. The accident occurred when a 2004 Chevrolet driven by 48 year old Lucio A Colin of  Tulsa,Oklahoma was northbound and began to slide on ice covered roadway. The Chevrolet  then struck the side of a bridge and then slid into the path of 2007 Volvo driven by 54 year old Jordan L Albaugh. The Volvo then struck the Chevrolet, and struck a guard rail and traveled off the right side of the roadway and overturned. A passenger in the Colin Vehicle Olga G. Colin 33, and Marco A. Colin 10 years was transported to The Bates County Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
