Obituary - Eddie Nelson

Graveside services for Edwin Nelson will be 2 p.m. Thursday, November 20, 2014 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Butler, Missouri with Reverend Bill Perkey officiating. There will be no visitation. Services under the direction of the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel. (660-679-6555)

Edwin M. L. Nelson, age 64 of Nevada, Missouri died Saturday, November 14, 2014. He was born August 16, 1950 to Frankie Jean Holland Stephens in Butler.

Edwin is survived by a cousin, Nikki Fahnestock and husband Dan of Marshall, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jeanie Stephens in 2010.

Obituary - Betty Daugherty

Betty F. Daugherty, 79, formerly of Butler, Missouri passed away November 16, 2014 in Sedalia, Missouri. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, November 20, 2014 at Mullinax Funeral Home (660-679-0009) in Butler, Missouri with Dr. Terry Davis officiating. There is no visitation. Burial will follow services in Benjamin Cemetery, Amoret, Missouri. Contributions are suggested to the First Baptist Church in Butler. Betty Fayrene (Counsil) Daugherty, 79, was born August 26, 1935 in Chautauqua County, Kansas, daughter of Fay and Margaret (Ruble) Counsil.

Betty was the oldest of five children, and was united in marriage November 4, 1952 in Oklahoma to Patrick Daugherty. Her major loves included frogs, the Kansas City Chiefs, Royals, and KU.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; as well as two brothers, Larry and Gary Counsil. She is survived by two daughters: Patty Snethen and husband John of Green Ridge, Missouri, and Rose Prall of Topeka, Kansas; one sister: Sharon Pope of Everett, Washington; and one brother: Bobby Counsil of Neodesha, Kansas; seven grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Record cold temps will be followed by slight warming trend this week

Normal highs for this time of the year should be pushing 50 degrees but the dreaded 'polar vortex' has dropped temps into the pipe busting range a tad early for the season.

Good news is that we will see temps closer to 'normal' with highs in the mid to upper 40's by the end of the week.

Ironically, temps are supposed to reach the mid 50's Saturday and Sunday but rain showers are possible both days.

Medicalodge celebration for today has been cancelled

The 50th anniversary Medicalodge celebration scheduled for today has been cancelled. We will post when the event will be rescheduled in the near future.

Winter Weather Advisory cancelled

The National Weather Service has cancelled the Winter Weather Advisory for today. While the bulk of the heaviest snow is moving to the north, we are still expecting trace amounts up to an inch or so later today.

Snow headed this way

Radar shows the predicted snow is slowly making its way into our area, giving morning deer hunters a little more time to wait it out.

The National Weather Service is still calling for 1 to 3 inches of snow for Bates county and the Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until midnight.

Everyone is reminded to take your time when traveling later today, roadways may become slick.

Mr. Blair Penney, Piano Specialist with Schmitt Music of Overland Park, KS, will present a performance on the church’s grand piano. Following a mini-concert, Blair will detail the in depth approach used by Steinway & Sons as they carefully disassemble, restore and rebuild the instrument.

 

The Save Our Steinway Committee will present a fundraising campaign progress report and share some exciting news about yet another excellent print article that will be forthcoming in a large circulation publication.

 

Donations of all amounts have poured in and many “Preservation Patron” shares of $100 each have been purchased and several people have chosen to purchase multiple shares.  Every donor who purchases a minimum $100 Share receives an elegant certificate that is keepsake quality.  Letters of receipt for donations are sent from the museum to each donor.

 

Following the presentation, Blair Penney and theSave Our Steinway Committee will be available for questions and conversation as a lovely dessert buffet will be open for guests to enjoy.  This event is free and open to the public.  If you are interested in serving on a variety of sub-committees, please speak with us at the event or call Peggy Buhr at the Bates County Museum (660-679-0134).

 

We do hope you will join us for this lovely afternoon program to learn of the great progress being made toward securing the necessary funds for the full restoration of our 1877 Steinway Model B Grand Piano.
