Obituary - Kenneth C. (Kenny) Barbour

Kenneth C. (Kenny) Barbour of Walker, Missouri was born August 29, 1950 at Nevada Regional Medical Center and went home to the Lord on Thursday, December 26, 2019 following a brief illness.

Kenny was born to Cecil H. Barbour and Lola Mae (Radde) Barbour of Walker, Mo. He was a graduate of Walker High School in 1968. Kenny was drafted into the Army when he was 19 years old. He served from March 18, 1970 to January 11, 1972. He completed his basic training in Fort Ord, CA and later spent a year in Ft. Bliss, Tx. He would then serve ten months in Korea where he served as a Specialist 4th class (SP4), his role was driving a Chaparrelle self- propelled missile launcher to help protect South Korea from a North Korean invasion

Upon returning home, Kenny worked for the highway department for 5 years. He then worked on highway construction for 35 years, on highway projects such as the Springfield and MCI airport runways and Kansas Speedway, as well as most of 69 Highway, the 249 Bypass in Joplin and numerous roads throughout the Kansas and Missouri area.

At the age of 24, Kenny started planting pecans on the side. He enjoyed planting pecans as he knew this would be something that would outlive him on this earth and bring joy to many people. When the tree would reach a certain size, he would graft the tree and plant it on his property. This year was the first year that he had over 100 producing trees that he had grafted and planted.

In March of 1971, Kenny married Bobbie Joyce Kemper of Walker in Lamar, Missouri. In his words, “She was a wonderful partner and he loved her dearly!”

Kenny was a member of Community Christian Church of Nevada, Missouri. Kenny loved the Lord and spent countless hours reading and researching the scriptures. He loved spending time in God’s presence and was anticipating his journey home.

He is survived by his wife, Bobbie of 48 years; two daughters, Kristy Padgett and husband Monte of Milo, Missouri, and Kelley Trivett of Lakeland, Florida, Kenny took great delight in his three grandchildren, Mikena & Kaden Padgett and Khloe Trivett, and enjoyed attending their sporting events and vacationing with them. He is also survived by numerous friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Helen Bausch.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 30, 2019 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Josh Smith officiating. A private burial will be held at a later time at Green Lawn Cemetery in Schell City, Missouri. The family will receive friends from 6-7:00 p.m. on Sunday evening at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks contributions be made to a scholarship fund for the grandchildren or the charity of your choice

Obituary - Jacob Alexander Guerrero

Jacob Alexander Guerrero, 21, Sheldon, MO passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2019 as a result of a traffic accident in Vernon County.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Two Bridges in Henry County Posted with Weight Limits Due to Deterioration

What: Recent bridge inspections showed deterioration, requiring MoDOT to restrict heavy loads on two bridges on state routes in the Windsor area

When: Beginning today (Friday, December 27). New weight limit signs will be installed as soon as possible.

Where: Missouri Route 2 bridge over Tebo Creek west of Windsor
Missouri Route 52 bridge over the Katy Trail southeast of Windsor

Traffic Impacts: Weight limits on both bridges reduced to 25 tons. (A regular semi-truck weighs 40 tons) Bridges remain open to traffic Both bridges safe for travel (Weather and/or construction delays will alter the work schedule)


Butler Medicalodge December Employee Of The Month

Congratulations to Brittany Mitchell, Medicalodges Butler, who is December's employee of the month.

Brittany has been with Medicalodges for 3 years now. She chose to work at our facility to better herself in nursing.

When she's not working she enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She loves to sing, likes to eat seafood and her favorite color is mustard yellow.

When asked what's the best thing at Medicalodges her answer: The kind, hardworking people that go out of their way to put smiles on the resident's faces.

Her older sister, Crystal, is her inspiration.
A word of advice to her fellow coworkers:
"Be kind to everyone because you don't know what kind of battle they are fighting."

Obituary - Mark A. Dennis

Mark A. Dennis, 69, Nevada, MO passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2019 at Nevada Nursing and Rehab in Nevada. Mark A. Dennis was born in Topeka, KS on December 22, 1950 to Everett A. and Ethel L. Dennis.

Mark was a Highland Park High School graduate of 1969. He attended Kaw Valley Vo-Tech / Now Washburn Tech. After High School he attended Washburn University and served in the Kansas National Guard. He attended a computer school in Kansas City, KS for a year.

Mark worked for Santa Fe Railroad / now Burlington Northern Railroad until his retirement.

Mark had lived in Elmont and then Perry, Ks. After retiring he moved to Lake of the Ozarks where he wanted it to be his final resting place. Mark enjoyed driving his corvettes - was a member of the corvette club, boating at Perry Lake and Lake of the Ozarks. He also loved spending time at the cabin and going hunting.

Survivors include his cousins, Elaine O’Rear and her husband Darrell of Kansas City, MO, and Timothy Gotschall and Stephanie of Nevada.

A private memorial service with Military Honors will be held at a later date.

Memorials are suggested in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association in c/o Ferry Funeral Home.

Nevada Speedway would like to invite you out to the Nevada Speedway on Monday December 30th as Karl Lehmann will take his final lap around the speedway.

All drivers are welcome to bring their race cars, no matter what stage they're in to honor Karl. Fans are welcome to gather in the grandstands.

Karl's funeral is at 2P.M, so this will be appropriately at 3P.M.
