Obituary - William F. "Bill" Hall

William F. "Bill" Hall age 80 of Kansas City, Missouri departed this life Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at his home surrounded with family and love.

Bill is survived by his wife Emma Lou Hall of the home; two sons, Michael W. Hall and his wife Trisha of Omaha, Nebraska, and Danny R. Hall and his wife Susie of Lee's Summit, Missouri; five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren; other family members and many friends.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 2, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Private family burial will be held at the Clearfork Cemetery, Garden City, Missouri.

Due to Covid 19 social distancing and mask are required during services.

Update: No serious injuries in accident on Missouri 52 West Highway

On 1/28/21 around 3:50pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies, Butler Fire Department and Bates County EMS responded to a motor vehicle accident on Missouri 52 Highway west of Butler.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2006 Jeep Liberty driven by Jennifer L. Davis of Butler, Missouri was stopped for a school bus when she was struck in the rear by a 2008 Chrysler Sebring driven by 25 year old Lindsey N. Conn of Mound City, Kansas.

Two juvenile children in the Chrysler sustained minor injuries in this accident and both were checkout and released from the scene of this accident.

The Chrylser was towed from the scene of this accident by Douty's Tow of Butler, Missouri. The Jeep was driven from the scene.

Obituary - Tom Charles Claflin

Tom Charles Claflin, 81, Sheldon, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2021, at his Sheldon home surrounded by family, following a short illness. Tom was born Oct. 19, 1939, in Anthony, Kan., to Charlie Clark and Electra Lee (Kraus) Claflin. 

He was united in marriage to Betty Jane (Janie) Landwehr on Jan. 28, 1960 in Liberal. She survives of the home. Tom and Janie were one day short of celebrating their 61st wedding anniversary.

Tom was raised as a child in the Perry, Ok. area. His family moved south of Bronaugh when Tom was 11 years old. Upon his 1958 high school graduation from Liberal High School, Tom began a lifelong farming career. In his early years, Tom baled hay each summer at the Taberville prairies. As his family grew, he settled into full-time row crop farming and raising cattle in the Sheldon area., a profession he continued until his retirement in 2020.

Tom’s memberships included serving 16 years on the Sheldon R-8 School Board of Education; the Sheldon Cemetery Board; Nevada Elks Lodge #564; and was a Boy Scout leader that included serving as an adult advisor for the Mo-Kan Area Council Order of the Arrow. In 2012 he received a 50 year pin from the Boy Scouts of America.

In addition to his wife Janie, he is survived by two children, Kathy Claflin-Ashworth, Sheldon and Charles (Michelle) Claflin, Sheldon; five grandchildren, Justin (Sarah) Hancock, Sheldon, Kelsey (Joshua) Westerhold, Sheldon, Cody (Taylor) Claflin, Sheldon, Caitlin (Corey) Baney, Pryor, Ok. and Carly Claflin, Stillwater, Ok.; three great-grandchildren, Maddison Westerhold and Cade and Cameron Claflin, all of Sheldon; two brothers, Harry (Mary) Claflin, Liberal, and Dick (Brenda) Claflin, Nixa, his faithful Australian Shepherd Jake; and a host of cousins and close friends. Tom was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be at 2 pm on Monday, February 1, 2021, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada with Pastor Roger Beach officiating. Interment will follow in the Sheldon Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm, Sunday, Jan. 31, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to either the Nevada Animal Shelter or the Vernon County Youth Fair in care of Ferry Funeral Home.

Accident on 52 west

First responders and the Missouri highway patrol are on the scene of a three vehicle accident on West 52 Highway near County Rd 2467. Injuries are being reported, please avoid the area if possible. More information will be posted as it becomes available.

Adrian R-3 School District COVID-19 Update

January 28, 2021
Dear Adrian Parents/Guardians
We are reaching out to you today to inform you of a new cases of COVID-19 at the Adrian School District. The individual was last present in the school on Monday, January 25, 2021. The District is working with the Bates County Health Department to identify close contacts of the confirmed case.

If a student or staff member has been determined to have been in close contact with this individual, you will be contacted with further instructions.

If you are not contacted, there is nothing further you need to do at this time. Close contact is defined as fewer than 6 feet away for more than 15 minutes, regardless of face covering use per the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The District is taking all precautions, consistent with the CDC and Bates County Health Department. Due to privacy requirements, we cannot release the name of the individual or details that may identify them.

Appropriate cleaning and disinfecting measures are being taken, so there is no need to close our building for additional cleaning.

COVID-19 is thought to be spread via person-to-person contact through contaminated air droplets from coughing and sneezing by an infected person. As with controlling the spread of other viruses, we urge everyone to take the following preventive measures:

Stay home when you are sick
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry.
Avoid coughing or sneezing into your hands or in the air. Always try to cough or sneeze into a tissue, then throw the tissue away and wash your hands. If you don’t have a tissue, cough/sneeze into your arm.

As much as you can, avoid touching your eyes, mouth, and nose.
Clean AND disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily. This includes tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks.
Maintain at least 6 feet of distance between non-household members and wear a mask in places where maintaining that distance is difficult.

Be alert for symptoms including…
Fever of 100.4° or higher
Any new cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Fatigue
Muscle or body aches
Headache
New loss of taste or smell
Sore throat
New congestion or runny nose
Nausea or vomiting
Diarrhea
Close contact with a person with COVID-19 in the last 14 days

Henry County Health Center confirms 9 new positive cases of COVID-19

The Henry County Health Center (HCHC) has received confirmation of 9 more positive cases of COVID-19. Clinton-6, Calhoun-1, Windsor- 1, and Deepwater-1. This brings the total number of confirmed positive cases in Henry County to 1836.

All contact tracing has commenced and all parties that have had close contact are being notified. HCHC continues to encourage residents to practice social distancing, washing your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds or more, and to remain home if you are sick.

The CDC continues to recommend that individuals to wear a face covering when you are in public, and are unable to social distance, to assist in preventing the spread of COVID-19.


El Dorado Springs man injured in Cedar County Crash

On 1/27/21 around 9:35pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cedar County along with Cedar County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle accident on CR South 601 around 3 miles east of El Dorado Springs.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2015 GMC Terrain driven by 32 year old Danny R. Rowlins of El Dorado Springs, Missouri traveled off the roadway and struck a fence.

Mr. Rowlins sustained minor injuries in this accident and ambulance to Cedar County Memorial Hospital in El Dorado Springs for treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene of this accident by C&H Towing of Collins, Missouri.
