Obituary - Barbara Ann Darby

No public service is planned for Barbara at this time.

Barbara Ann Darby, 63, daughter of Donnie Ray and Sheilia Ann (Hill) Fulton, was born in Kansas City, Missouri March 16, 1958. She departed this life November 25, 2021 in the Lee's Summit Medical Center, Lee's Summit, Missouri.

Survivors include: her companion, Carl Garrett of Appleton City, Missouri; one sister, Kimberly Clark and husband Kenneth of Blue Springs; two daughters: Jennifer Roe and husband Matt and their children Cydney and Cylus Garrett, and Kori Garrett of Independence, Missouri; one nephew, Bryce Clark and wife Mary; and one niece, Alicia Clark and husband Nick.


Update: Elderly couple killed in Miami County Kansas accident involving a train

On November 25th around 6:08 p.m. the Miami County Kansas Sheriffs Office responded to a call from a Union Pacific Railroad employee of a train vs. vehicle injury crash at the railroad crossing of Ridgeview Road and Wagstaff Road in rural Miami County.

When Emergency personnel arrived on scene, they located a 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix approximately 1/2 miles down the tracks from the intersection fully engulfed in flames.

A preliminary investigation has found that the vehicle attempted to drive around the railroad crossing arms and got stuck in the crossing on the tracks. 

The train struck the vehicle and pushed it to its final resting location. Just prior to the train stopping, the vehicle caught fire trapping both occupants. 

Both occupants were pronounced dead at the scene of this accident and it appears all railroad equipment was working properly at the time of this incident.

The occupants are believed to be an elderly couple from Spring Hill, Kansas. The Identity of the occupants haven't been confirmed and will be completed through the Pathologist. 

The Miami County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the crash with the assistance of the Johnson County Sheriff's Office and their crime lab as well as Union Pacific Railroad Police, Miami County EMS, Louisburg Fire Department and the Johnson County Fire District #2 all assisted and the crash scene.

Obituary - Benton Robert Brakey

Benton Robert Brakey, age 81 of Butler, Missouri passed away at his home on Tuesday, November 23, 2021. He was born the son of Harry Murcell and Nelvajene Beard Brakey on October 15, 1940 at St. Joseph, Missouri. Benton was a retired boilermaker with Local 83. He enjoyed puzzles, sports and watching old westerns.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sheila on March 22, 2021. Benton is survived by son, Shawn Brakey and wife, Bailey, stepdaughter, Veronika Spear and two stepsons, Danny and Michael Spear, twelve grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Obituary - Alan Michael "Mike" Glaze

Alan Michael "Mike" Glaze, age 69, Spring Hill, Kansas passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2021. He was born on November 24, 1952 in Ottawa, Kansas the son of Alva Glaze and Mary Batchelor. He worked as a driller in the oil and natural gas industries. 

Mike was united in marriage to Lori Sprouse on November 27, 1978. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ronald and Darral Glaze, and a sister Cheryl Crowder. Mike is survived by his wife, Lori, a son, Walker Glaze, a brother, Joseph Glaze, and two sisters, Susie Glaze and Gail Kuklenski.

Memorial Graveside service will be 1 pm Saturday, December 4, 2021 at the Oak Lawn Cemetery in La Cygne, Kansas. Online condolences can be left at www.schneiderfunerals.com.


Multiple people killed in Miami County Kansas accident involving a train

On Thursday night around 6:30pm the Miami County Kansas Sheriffs Office along with several emergency personnel responded to a multiple fatality accident involving a train and one vehicle.

The area of this accident is at 255th Street and Wagstaff Road which is south of Spring Hill and east of the Hillsdale Reservoir in rural Miami County.

An Investigation is underway at this time.

Obituary - Wilma Mary McKeaigg,

Wilma Mary McKeaigg, age 99, passed away on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at Clinton Healthcare and Rehab Center in Clinton, Missouri. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the Vansant-Mills Chapel with visitation from 1:00-2:00 PM prior to the service. Burial will follow in Englewood Cemetery Clinton, Missouri. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the LaDue Cemetery and can be left in care of the funeral home.

Wilma was born on June 29, 1922 near Montrose, Missouri. The first child of Roy Edgar and Mary Edna Varner Briggs. She was united in marriage to James L. McKeaigg Jr. on February 8, 1941 and to this union three children were born.

Wilma worked several years for United Telephone Company and later worked for J.C. Penney Company retiring after 20 years of service.

She was a member of LaDue Christian Church, serving in various capacities over the years.

Wilma was preceded in death by her husband James, her parents, an infant brother, brothers; Uel Briggs and Lester Briggs, sons-in-law Robert Garrett and Paul Collins and two brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law.

Survivors include her children, Carolyn Garrett of Clinton, Missouri, Larry McKeaigg (Pris) and Sue Collins both of Independence, Missouri. Two grandchildren; Mathew Collins (Lisa) and Deanna Collins Allison (Eric) all of Blue Springs, Missouri. Two great granddaughters; Kaitlin Allison Moore (Kelcey) of Kansas City, Missouri and Lauren Collins of Blue Springs, Missouri. One great-great granddaughter Lyla Rae Moore. Four brothers; Glen Briggs, Shelby Briggs (Marilyn), Clyde Briggs (Donna) all of Clinton, Missouri and James Briggs (Carol) of Deepwater, Missouri. Three sisters; Bonnie Winter and Esther Singer of Clinton, Missouri and Shirley Murphey (Joseph) of Joplin, Missouri. One sister-in-law Jackie Briggs of Clinton, Missouri. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.


Shooting in Rich Hill

Bates County Sheriff's Deputies have been called to the scene of a shooting inside the City of Rich Hill. Additional staff have been called in to assist to include Detectives and all Command Staff.

This appears to be a targeted incident. One person received a gunshot wound and has been airlifted to a trauma hospital.

Two white male subjects entered the home and an altercation ensured. One produced a gun and shot the homeowner.

The Sheriffs Office does not believe this to be a random act and does not feel there is any substantial danger to the community.

We are looking for information on two white male subjects. The shooter was wearing a blue hoodie. No other descriptions has been given at this time.
