The Butler Senior Center will be providing free rides by BaCo Transport to and from the center for lunch and attend activities. Any extra stops will be charged $0.50 a stop.
As a reminder, if you are 60 and older, you may eat lunch at the suggested contribution of $4.50. Riders under the age of 60, will have to pay the full price of $7.48.

Two Mega Million players have claimed a $1 million prize won in the Jan. 7 drawing. Their winning ticket, purchased at Smoker Friendly, 1009 W. Fort Scott Road in Butler, matched all five white-ball numbers drawn.
The winning numbers drawn on Jan. 7 were 7, 29, 43, 56 and 57.
The player who purchased the winning ticket said it was out of the norm for her to play Mega Millions.
“I was buying Powerball,” she explained. “I saw the Mega Millions and I said, ‘Just give me one of those, too.’”
After the drawing, the players realized the Quick Pick ticket had won them a $1 million prize.
“I was like, ‘No way!’” she added.
This is the 23rd Mega Millions “Match 5” $1 million base prize won in Missouri since 2013, and the first to be sold in Bates County.
Mega Millions drawings are held on Tuesdays and Fridays at 10 p.m. Friday’s jackpot is an estimated $376 million.
On January 27th around 5:30 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle accident in the northbound lanes of I-49 near mile marker 130.8 near Butler.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2005 Jeep Liberty driven by 50 year old Steven H. Caskey of Appleton City lost control on the slick roadway, vehicle then skidded off the roadway and struck a guardrail.
Mr. Caskey sustained minor injuries in this accident and he was transported by ambulance to the Bates County Memorial Hospital for treatment.
The Jeep was totaled and towed from the scene by Don's Tow of Butler.
Debbie Adams, 66 of Butler, Missouri passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Medicalodge Butler. A visitation will be held Monday, January 31, 2022 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Mullinax Funeral Home, Butler (660-679-0009).

Deborah Bedwell Adams was born February 6, 1955 in Hutchinson, Kansas to William and Jean Berry Bedwell. Her father was serving in the US Navy at the time, so the family would move several times as she was growing up. They spent the first few years of her life in Virginia Beach before moving home to Butler where Debbie would finish school and graduate from Butler High School in 1973.
On December 13, 1975 Debbie was united marriage to Larry Adams and two sons were born to this union, Neal and Jared.
Throughout Debbie’s life she worked various jobs around Butler. First she worked at the hospital in the Respiratory Therapy Department, until she quit to care for her mother-in-law. Driving her to Kansas City multiple days a week for kidney treatments. Debbie was always there to care for her family and friends first and foremost. She worked for a short time at the local Caseys and Walmart, but most will remember seeing her at the Jennings Market where she worked for over 25 years until it’s closing.
Debbie liked to stay busy, and loved crafting, quilting, and baking. Her greatest joy in life came from her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
Debbie was preceded in death by her parents, son Andrew Tyler Adams, sister Jenny Thornton, and brother Richard Bedwell. She is survived by her husband of 46 years Larry Adams, sons Neal Adams and wife Cassandra and Jared Adams.
She also leaves behind two grandchildren, Casody Friend and Kyson Adams, brother Kelly Bedwell, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
The Boy Scouts of America, in coordination with the Butler American Legion, is hosting a membership and leadership drive to form a new Cub Scout Pack in Butler.
The meeting will be held at Boy Scouts Hall at 404 W Fort Scott St, Butler, on Saturday, February 12th at 2 pm. Interested parents with boys and girls between kindergarten and the 5th grade (5-10 years old) are invited to attend along with their children.
Scouting has been conspicuously absent from Butler since 2019 and has suffered greatly since the beginning of the pandemic. The BSA is also looking for both new and seasoned volunteers interested in scouting.

Rodney James Newland, age 77 of Butler, Missouri died Wednesday, January 26, 2002 at his home in Butler. He was born October 22, 1944 to Roderick and Pauline Ashford Newland in Kansas City, Missouri.
Rodney is survived by three sons, Andrew Newland and wife Linda of Garden City, Missouri, Chad McCammon and wife Stephanie of Holton, Kansas and Tracy Newland and wife Tracy of Tuscumbia, Alabama; two daughters, Diane Shelton and husband Ron of Amoret, Missouri and Tammy Reagan of Joplin, Missouri; two brothers, Phil Newland of Fairborn, Ohio and Forrest “Spike” Newland and wife Debbie of Springfield, Ohio; three sisters, Sandra Parker of South Carolina, Linda Mae Newland of Kansas City, Missouri and Pamela Bales of Butler, Missouri; 13 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Gail Diane Newland on August 22, 2021.
Mary Ann Carter, 64, of Clinton, Missouri passed away Saturday evening, January 22, 2022 at the Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo. She was born May 31, 1957 in Peoria, Illinois, the daughter of Kenneth Keith Kizer and Betty Lou (Rogers) Kizer.
Mary Ann was employed for several years with Pathways, later becoming Compass Health. She enjoyed throwing darts, winning numerous tournaments and awards. She loved going to auctions.
Surviving are Paul “Bud” Mallett, Jr., of the home; four daughters, Cory Howell (Brandon), Morley, Michigan, Mary Conley (Steve Conley, Jr.), Sedalia, Mo., Tracy Turner, Blue Springs, Mo., and Casey Jones (Will), Clinton, Mo.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dan Kizer (Ann), Peoria, Il., and Doug Kizer (Jill), state of Wisconsin; one sister, Candy Brown, Amarillo, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, David Kizer.
The family will receive friends Friday, January 28, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton.
