State Farm Student Athlete of the Week:

We are proud to announce this week’s State Farm student athlete of the week, Junior, Tristan Leeper from Archie. Tristan plays quarterback and linebacker for the whirlwinds. He was nominated by Head Coach Drew Smith after last weeks game against Plattsburg. Tristan had 240 yards rushing on 18 carries. He had 4 rushing touchdowns and 4 passing touchdowns.

He went 7/8 on passing for 111 yards. Defensively he had 5 tackles with one pick 6. We asked Tristan what he feels the most difficult part of being a student athlete today is and he said “probably balancing the practice, games and watching film with getting your homework done and completing everything needed for school.” We asked him what he thought it took to become an elite athlete. He stated “well natural talent helps, getting in the weight room, trusting your coaches, and do all the off season work you can.

I’ve always had good parents who have pushed me to put in the extra work outside of the regular practice.” Then we asked who he sees as a role model as an athlete and he stated “I like to watch college players and look at those players who stand out as leaders and who try to motivate their team during the game. I also look up to Coach Smith a lot. He’s a great person and athlete.” It was a pleasure speaking with Tristan and we wish him and the Archie Whirlwinds the best of luck tonight as they take on Liberal at home for senior night.
