Obituary - Gary Ray Johnson

Gary Ray Johnson, age 90 of Pleasanton, Kansas passed away on May 28, 2025 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born the son of John Harms Johnson Jr, and Ella Naomi Nighswonger-Johnson on March 10, 1935 in Viola, Kansas. Gary graduated from Bronaugh high school in 1953 and joined the United States Air Force. After being discharged from the Air Force, he married Regina “Jean” Bender on November 8, 1958 in Ambler, Pennsylvania, she preceded him in death on August 31, 2012. He spent his career in civil service as an airplane mechanic, working at the Whiteman Air Force Base. He loved to fish and wood carving, carving many walking sticks and clocks. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and seven siblings, Johnnie, Kenneth, Ada, Erma, Hazel, Jean and Helen. He is survived by two sons, Brian Johnson (Robin) and Donald Johnson (Debbie), five grandchildren, Daniel, Kris, Terry, Samantha and Allen Johnson and ten great grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be held at 11 am, Monday, June 2, 2025 at the Schneider Funeral Home in Pleasanton, Kansas. Visitation will be held from 10 am until service time. Burial will follow at the Pleasanton Cemetery. Contributions are suggested to the Boy Scouts of America and may be sent in care of Schneider Funeral Home P.O. Box 525 Pleasanton, Kansas 66075. Obituary - Ann Lorraine Edwards

Ann Lorraine Edwards, of Harrisonville, Missouri, left this world peacefully on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at the age of 89. Funeral services for Ann will be held at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville on Monday, June 2, 2025, with visitation beginning at 12:30 PM, followed by a service at 2:00 PM. Ann will be laid to rest in Orient Cemetery in Harrisonville.

"If I Were Mayor" essay contest winners

 

Congratulations to all of the winners of the "If I Were Mayor" contest. Winners read their essays at the May 27th council meeting and were sworn in as honorary mayors for the day. A big thank you to The Blu Flamingo who donated gift certificates to the winners. Thank you to Barb Proffitt with the Linn County News for sharing the picture.

Winners were: Wade Snyder, Ava Snyder, Tenley Wingate, Harlee Evans, Lindsey Walton, Kenlee Holding, Trinity Guilfoyle, Jensen Coen, Amelia Ayres, Erika Martinez, Cooper Reeves, and Luke Maxfield. We appreciate the school staff for allowing us to do this and helping the students participate.

Rich Hill gearing up for the 4th

Pre-sale wristbands will be available starting next week at Food Fair Rich Hill and Citizens Bank of Amsterdam.

Wristbands will be $25 pre-sale and 30 at the gate.
The wristbands are good for one night only, from 6-10 p.m.
The carnival reserves the right to change the times at their discretion.

Mariah Coffey named recipient of the 2025 Donna Pfautsch HATS Scholarship

 


Harrisonville Middle School 8th grader Mariah Coffey has been named as the recipient of the 2025 Donna Pfautsch HATS Scholarship. The Donna Pfautsch HATS Scholarship is presented annually to an eighth-grader who demonstrates academic excellence, diverse interests and a love of learning. An endowment established with the Harrisonville Public School Foundation by the Pfautsch family funds the scholarship, and selected students receive the scholarship funding upon graduation from Harrisonville High School. Donna Pfautsch dedicated 40 years to teaching.

Avery joined BCMH in May as a nurse in our Medical/Surgical Unit and recently passed her board exam to become a Registered Nurse. She earned her degree from Bolivar Technical College, and we’re proud to celebrate this important milestone in her nursing career.
