Holiday fun at BCI

Staff and employees alike took time from their busy schedules celebrate Christmas at Bates County Industries this week. The day included Christmas movies, gifts, games, food and plenty of laughs as to be expected.

The staff and BCI would like to thank everyone who helped make the day possible.

Done as it 'wood be' 100 years ago

Volunteers with the Western Missouri Antique Tractor and Machinery Association have been busy- rebuilding a sawmill and using donated power poles to saw into lumber to construct a new building at Frontier Village in Adrian. As the entire process was done exactly as it would be 100 years ago, we're  certain there will be many more 'period correct' projects in the future.

Recipe of the Week

A whole new look at Harrisonville city park

The sidewalk project at the Harrisonville city park is nearing completion and is coming along nicely as seen here. Hometown Grant funds have made the project possible, making the area much safer for pedestrians and is expected to be fully completed by Spring.

Archie Festival Committee to disband Dec. 31st

With full hearts and after many thoughtful conversations, the Archie Festival Committee has come to a mutual agreement to officially close the committee as of 12/31/25.

This decision was not made lightly. Over the years, this committee has been built on community, volunteerism, and a deep love for Archie. Every parade, festival, and Trick-or-Treat Lane was made possible by people who showed up, gave their time, and cared deeply and we are forever grateful for that support.
Any remaining funds will be donated directly to the school to help cover student lunches and provide wellness support for the school nurse and staff, something we feel strongly benefits the heart of our community: our kids.
For anyone who would like to carry on the festival or Trick-or-Treat Lane traditions, we would be more than happy to share information, resources, and insights we’ve gathered along the way. We would love nothing more than to see these events continue for Archie.
Thank you for trusting us, supporting us, and being part of something special. It has truly been an honor to serve this community.

Butler student to receive Outstanding Student scholarship

The Arthur Capper Cooperative Center (ACCC) in the Department of Agricultural Economics at Kansas State University is proud to recognize Macie Morris of Butler, Missouri, a junior in agribusiness as one of three 2025-2026 CoBank Outstanding Student Scholarship recipients.

Morris is actively involved as an executive member for the National Agribusiness Marketing Association team (NAMA) and attended the International Food and Agribusiness Management Association (IFAMA) conference in Brazil. She is a member of the KSU Agricultural Economics/Agribusiness Club and serves as the Public Relations Chair. She is also a member of Collegiate Farm Bureau. Macie completed a crop insurance internship with AgriSompo and has also interned for DSWA Public Accountants. After graduation she wants to work with farmers, helping them manage risks and grow their operations, either through crop insurance or ag lending. The Morris family is affiliated with Farm Credit Services.

“The CoBank Outstanding Student Scholarships are one way CoBank contributes to the education of future agricultural leaders, especially those with an interest in careers in finance or banking,” states Professor Brian Briggeman, director of the Arthur Capper Cooperative Center. This scholarship has awarded $134,125 through the ACCC cooperative scholarship program since 2006. To be eligible for a scholarship, students must be a sophomore, junior or senior in high academic standing in K-State’s Department of Agricultural Economics at the time the scholarship is received. Preference is given to students who are studying agricultural economics or agribusiness, who have demonstrated an interest in pursuing a career in banking or finance, have taken accounting or finance classes and are residents in one of the following states: CA, CO, CT, IA, KS, KY, MO, MN, NE and TX. Continuing K-State students are encouraged to fill out the K-State scholarship application to be included in the university scholarship process.

The awarding of the CoBank Outstanding Student Scholarships is coordinated through the Arthur Capper Cooperative Center. “Additional contributions by those who want to support the purposes of cooperative scholarships are welcome,” Dr. Briggeman said. They should be made payable to “KSU Foundation/ACCC” and sent to the Arthur Capper Cooperative Center, Department of Agricultural Economics, 305 Waters Hall, Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas, 66506.

Other recipients were Madelyn Hill of Ponder, Texas and Reygan Schrock of Brookville, Kansas.
