Obituary - Georgianna Smith

Interment and graveside services for Georgianna Smith will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 24, 2026 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Butler, Missouri. Contributions may be made to VFW. Services are under the direction of Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Butler (660-679-6555). Online condolences www.schowengerdtchapel.com.
Georgianna Smith, age 101 of El Dorado Springs, Missouri passed away September 22, 2026 at Community Springs Healthcare Facility in El Dorado Springs. Georgianna was born April 1, 1925 in Amoret, Missouri to Holly and Zula (Collins) Pahlman.
Georgianna, one of three children, grew up on a farm in Virginia, Missouri. She attended Butler High School in Butler, Missouri and graduated in 1943. Georgianna also lived in Carthage, Springfield and El Dorado Springs, Missouri. She married Charles E. Smith on August 21, 1947 in Butler and to this union, one daughter was born–Sherry (Smith) Gilbert.
Georgianna’s work background was very extensive and diverse, including employment in the banking industry in Butler and working in the Carthage School District. She also had an extended work history with General Electric in Springfield, Missouri where they lived for greater than 40 years before moving to the El Dorado Springs area. In the late 1950s, Georgianna and Charles ran Camp Galilee for a time–then opened Spring Dinner House, a restaurant that was located where the now El Dorado Springs Municipal Swimming Pool sits.
Georgianna is survived by her son-in-law, Dennis Gilbert of El Dorado Springs, Missouri; granddaughter, Shelley and Chuck Johnson of El Dorado Springs, Missouri; grandson, Chris Gilbert of Lawerence, Kansas; great-grandchildren, Shelby, Blake and Breann (Steven) all of El Dorado Springs, Missouri and Chasdity (Jessy) Coonce of Rich Hill, Missouri; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. Survivors also include many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were both parents; three sisters, Hazel, Betty and Dorthy; husband, Charles; and daughter, Sherry Gilbert.

Nationwide EAS test to be held on November 17th
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in coordination with the FCC, will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS). The test is scheduled for November 17, 2026, at approximately 2:20 pm EDT, with a back-up test date of December 3, 2026.

What to Expect
- The test message will state, “This is a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System, issued by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. This is only a test. No action is required by the public.”
- The test message will include standard EAS alert tones to support accessibility for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Broadcasters may broadcast the message in English, Spanish, or both, depending on station practices and audience needs.
The test will last approximately one minute. When the test has concluded, normal programming will resume.
No action is required by the public. According to FEMA website information, the test will NOT be sent to cell phones.

Special recognition paid during this week's Butler Rotary Club meeting
Above, Rotarian Greg Weaver was presented an award on Wednesday as a Paul Harris Fellow, which signifies he was a major donor to the Rotary Foundation. Below, Addison Hawks presented the program as she recently attended RYLA and gave a very good summary of her experience. She is a Junior at Butler High School and the daughter of Mike and Tonja Hawks.
