Miami FFA members earned the opportunity
to attend the 89th annual National Convention, which was held Oct 19th -22nd in Indianapolis, IN. The five members that went will be instrumental leaders in the KCP&L Energize Microgrant, developing wildlife habitat in their community of Bates county. The members will utilize this project as the cornerstone of the National Chapter Award Application next spring. These members attended educational and leadership sessions that encouraged members to follow the theme of the Convention, which was to “Transform.” Out of all of the speakers, Jason Brown, former NFL player, is the one the members were most moved by. Jason went into detail about what made him decide to quit football, giving up millions to become a farmer, and the joy of producing the food, and donating within his community his first crop of the year. The members also went to area agriculture business’s which included a fishery and a dairy farm. They learned how farmers manage their farms utilizing the natural resources available to be the most productive and efficient in order to succeed in today’s market. It was quite an opportunity to watch the FFA American Degree ceremony, cheering on Miami FFA Alumni, Crystal Routen while she was receiving her hard earned degree.
