A nearly three year old Cass County murder has been solved and the man charged with the crime is a former Grandview police officer. Jeffery D. Moreland, 52, has been charged with first degree murder of 30 year old Cara Jo Roberts of Harrisonville in November 2008.
Subsequently, Moreland is also charged with first degree murder of Nina Whitney, 75, of Hickman Mills in October last year.
A DNA sample linked him to both murders after a lead from a hitch hiker that was sexually assaulted and released by Moreland in June of 2010.

He has also been charged with one count of forcible rape and two counts of forcible sodomy in Cass County from the June 2010 incident. Bond is set at 1.5 million dollars.
