4-H celebrates achievement

Bates County 4-H Leaders and Members were honored at the annual Recognition Celebration held Sunday afternoon, November 6, 2011, at the First Christian Church in Butler. Alan J. Mundey, 4-H Youth Specialist, presided over the event, the focus of which was the presentation of awards for 4-H achievement this past year.

In recognition of National 4-H Week, Rachel Brown announced that window display awards were given to the Summit Go Getters 4-H club for first place, the Hudson Hustlers 4-H club for second place, and the County Line 4-H club for third place. Alan Mundey recognized those leaders with milestone years. Jerry Ferguson, John and Susan Goddard, and Mike and Monica Mackeprang received their 15 year pins. Ralph Franklin’s 15 year pin was previously presented to his family. Wesley Merritt was honored for his 25 years of volunteer service. Brenda Doody, Bates County Extension Office Manager, recognized all club leaders and presented pins to those for specific number of years they had served as volunteer leaders. Doody presented Community Service Awards to Ballard 4-H (green seal), Hudson Hustlers 4-H (silver seal), Summit Go Getters 4-H (gold seal), and County Line 4-H (purple seal). Marsha Casey was honored as Outstanding Project Leader and Sherry Warfield and Deanna Bradley shared the Outstanding Club Leader award. Curtis W. Long, M.D., of Butler was recognized with the Friend of 4-H Award for his generosity shown toward Bates County 4-H’ers.

During the remainder of the program, several 4-H members were honored for their achievements this past year. Honorees were as follows:
