Highlights from Butler R-V school board meeting

Old Business: The board approved the placement of a turnstile so that the public could access the track. It was also discussed that there would be a “ribbon cutting” ceremony upon the completion of the project, marking the time when the community could use the facility. Lighting for night use was discussed, but this was determined to be a project for later consideration.

New Business:
a. Program Evaluations. The board heard from Sheila Smalley about the Professional Development Committee which encourages professional growth for our staff.

b. The board approved the district audit which showed that the district was incompliance in all areas. The district saw its Operating Fund grow from $1,761,098 in 2010, to $1,814,885 in 2011, an increase of $53,787. The Debt service fund grew from $306,622 to $342,538 and the Capital Projects fund increased from $512,636 to $684,035.

c. Principal Steve Hubbard talked to the board about plans to improve the high school attendance policies.

d. Principal Steve Hubbard presented a policy on school dress code changes and will come back to the board in December for final approval.

e. The board approved a modification on policy JGGA, District Seclusion/Restraint. The modification removed the wording of all personnel will receive training to essential personnel. Under the previous wording, two days of in-service training would be required of every staff member, which was viewed as unnecessary, time and cost prohibitive. The district will ensure that an adequate number of personnel are trained to deal with restraint and that all personnel would know who was trained and their obligations under the law.

f. The board approved Youth Wrestling’s request for use of district facilities.

g. The board heard a report from the Bear Backer’s Donkey Basketball game Saturday, November 12th and that the Bear Backers had purchased basketball goals for the gymnasium side goals.

Closed Session:
The board accepted the resignation of Diane Snapp and approved the hiring of Valarie Gaylord for the same position.

The board reviewed specifications for future projects.
