$13,000 in pot seized in traffic stop near Butler

January 9th an otherwise routine traffic stop on 71 highway near 52 ended with Chayne Bittner, 36, and Robin Bittner, 42 both of Noel, Mo. behind bars for possession of marijuana. 

During the traffic stop the officer detected the smell of marijuana in the vehicle and when driver Chayne Bittner was confronted, he admitted there were several marijuana plants in the back seat.

At that point both were placed under arrest. The sheriff's department K-9 unit known as "Kilo" was dispatched to the scene where an additional 12 lbs of marijuana was found in the trunk.


The Bittners were transported to the Bates County Sheriff’s Office and the vehicle was towed. A more thorough search turned up an additional small amount of marijuana recovered from a purse in the vehicle.

On January 11th members of the Bates County Sheriff’s Office, CNET Drug Task Force, McDonald County Sheriff’s Office, Noel Police Department, Southwest Missouri Drug Task Force served a search warrant at the residence of the Bittners. Approximately 1 pound of suspected Marijuana and multiple items of drug paraphernalia were recovered from the residence.  

The seized Marijuana and plants has an estimated value of approximately $13,000.00.

Both Bittners were charged with Possession with the intent to Distribute. Bonds were set at $25,000 cash only.
