Travel Advisory issued for our area

MoDOT Winter Travel Advisory:
For Tuesday-Wednesday, Feb. 7-8

Weather: A mix of rain and snow is predicted for areas of southwest Missouri starting between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tuesday and moving from the northwest to the southeast. Freezing rain or freezing mist also may develop overnight into Wednesday morning. The wintry mix is expected to reach no further south than the Interstate 44 corridor, including, Joplin, Springfield and Marshfield.

MoDOT Plans: Partial crews will be on duty and ready to treat roads starting at 7 p.m. in Jasper, Barton, Vernon, Bates, St. Clair, Henry, Benton, Hickory, Cedar, Dade, Polk and Dallas counties.

Crews also will be ready to roll by 10:30 a.m. along I-44, including metropolitan Springfield and Joplin.

Crews in northern Newton, northern Barry, northern Stone, southern Lawrence and northern Christian counties will come on duty at 5 a.m. Wednesday.

Other crews further south will be on call in case the front moves further south than predicted.

Winter Driving Tips: Rain and mist could freeze suddenly in various locations during the early morning hours, causing slick pavement. A thin covering of snow also could cause slippery roads.

* Watch for icy patches, especially on bridge floors.

* Leave early for work Wednesday morning to allow plenty of drive time.

* Drive slower than normal.

* For road conditions, check MoDOT's Traveler Information Map at modot.org or call 1-888-276-6636.
