Obituary - Gene F. Grover


Gene Francis Grover died at his home in Peculiar, Missouri on February 21, 2013 with his family by his side. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Peculiar. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the church.

Gene was born on June 12, 1935 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of W. H. and Minnie F. (Flake) Grover. After joining the military and being stationed at Whiteman Air Force Base, he attended a local USO dance, where he met Beverly Lou Hinote. Gene and Beverly married on March 24, 1956 in Kansas City, Missouri. Of that union, four daughters were born: Melinda, Robin, Tracy and Jennifer.

Gene served in the US Air Force from 1954 to 1964, when he retired at the rank of MSgt. He began his military career with a tour in Korea, followed by a tour in Vietnam. After retirement from the military, he worked as a field service manager for Digital Equipment Corporation until his retirement in 1991. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and woodworking. He especially enjoyed being with his family.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, W.H. and Minnie Grover and his twin brother, Glen Grover. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Grover of the home; four daughters, Melinda Jackson and husband, Gary of Amsterdam, Missouri, Robin Kuhns of Butler, Missouri, Tracy Kuhns and husband, Lt. Col. William Kuhns of Copperas Cove, Texas and Jennifer Travis and husband, David of Wichita, Kansas; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
