Vernon County Manhunt

VERNON, CO., MO--- After an unsuccessful 3-hour manhunt in the woods just off of E Highway in Vernon County, the sheriff's office is asking the public for help with locating 29 year-old Michael Chew. Chew is believed to have broken into a house off of K Highway just outside of Nevada Friday afternoon. He kicked open the door and assaulted a 13 year-old boy before stealing items from the home.

Sheriff's Deputies had released a description of the vehicle, an older black pick-up with a grey stripe on the tail gate, shortly after responding to the call. Sheriff's Deputies responded to a grass fire off of E Highway in the Milo area where a pick-up matching the description was found. Deputies found some of the stolen items inside the truck along with other items believed to be related to other cases. Chew is believed to have started the fire and ran into the woods when the truck failed to start. The Vernon County Sheriff's Office called in a search of the area but called it off late into the night.

Saturday morning deputies discovered that a red 1989 Ford Pick-Up was stolen from a nearby home. Information has been received that Chew may be armed and dangerous. Chew is wanted on multiple felony charges. Chew is described as being 6'03, 190lbs with brown hair and a go-tee. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to immediately contact the Vernon County Sheriff's Office at
417-667-6042.
