Happenings‏ in Hume

Hume News:

The Community of Hume wishes to extend their sympathy to the family of Margaret Hill Sullivan.  Our thoughts and prayers are with her husband Randy Sullivan their daughters and families.  She will be greatly missed.

Wilma Swarens, Pam and Tyler Swarens, and Gayla Swarens attended a baby shower/birthday party in Liberal, Missouri on Friday evening, April 19.  The baby shower was for Matt and Angie Grable and their bundle of joy Benjamin.  The birthday celebration was for Gabriel Engle, son of Ashley Engle.

Prom was held at Hume on April 11.  The promenade is always so nice and the kids are dressed so beautifully.  Thanks to all those who work so hard with the kids and the after prom.

The Hume Fair Association is looking for Rodeo Queen Candidates and Prince/Princess Candidates for the 2013 Hume Fair.  Deadline for sign up is May 30, 2013.  Last year we started the future community leader’s page in our fair paper and we are going to be doing it again this year.  So if you are interested in your children or grandchildren’s pictures to be featured in this section, please call 660-643-7637 or 7120 for more information.  The theme for this year is: Hume Fair or Bust “Digging for the Good Times”.  Hume Fair dates are July 30 through August 3, 2013.

We always hold a contest for the Hume School Students to design a cover for the front page of the Hume Fair paper. Last year the designs were so great we picked out a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the older group and the younger group and then picked out the overall winner for the front cover.  They are busy working this into their schedule as school winds down for the year. On May 10 at 3:00 p.m. the Fair Board will serve DQ ice cream as a special treat and thank you for all the students’ hard work. This has been an awesome opportunity to get the kids involved in preparing for the Hume Fair.  Hopefully this will help in some small way to help them be involved in the communities they live in when they are older.  Volunteers are always needed to help keep any community going!
