Memorial Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Louisburg United Methodist Church, Louisburg, Kansas. Visitation to be held one hour prior to services beginning at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Donna Voteau officiating. Inurnment will be at Glenwild Cemetery at a later date. Laura Mae Belle (Gillogly) Eggleston, age 97, passed away on April 5, 2013 at her home near Louisburg, Kansas. Laura Mae was born April 25, 1915 to Oscar Calvert and Katherine Fidelia (Windisch) Gillogly, the second of seven children raised on the family farm in Middle Creek Township, southeast of Louisburg.
Laura Mae graduated from high school in Louisburg in 1933, attended Ursuline Academy in Paola and taught at several one-room schools in Miami County in the 1930’s and early 1940’s. She then focused her teaching talents on her own family after her 1941 marriage to James R. Eggleston, raising seven children who all graduated from college. Jim and Laura Mae operated a dairy farm in Wea Township for 30 years. Laura Mae was an active member of the Kuntry Klub Extension Homemakers Unit for its entire history of over 50 years and served as its president. She also served as a 4-H leader, teaching sewing and crochet to a generation of Ribbon Winners club members. Jim and Laura Mae were married 51 years. After their children were grown, they traveled frequently, visiting family, following good weather and birdwatching. After Jim’s death in 1992, Laura Mae lived with son Jim and his wife Mary Ann for many years in their home on the family farm.
Laura Mae was predeceased by her parents, husband, brothers Cecil and Joe Gillogly, sisters Ella Goss and Ruth Ellis, and daughter Pat Prevedel.
Laura Mae is survived by her sister Etta Snouffer of Paola, brother Everett and wife Geraldine Gillogly of Louisburg, son Jerry and wife Mary Ann Eggleston of Louisburg, son-in-law Al Prevedel of Ft. Collins, Colorado, daughter Cora and husband Deane Sargent of Ashland, Oregon, son Tim and wife Cindy Eggleston of West Line, Missouri, son Mark and wife Carmel Eggleston of County Limerick, Ireland, daughter Sara and husband Larry Booth of McLouth, Kansas, and daughter Barbara and husband Bradley Denton of Austin, Texas, plus thirteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Her family shares Laura Mae’s love of birds and wildflowers, literature and art, and family photos and stories.
