BUTLER SCHOOL BOARD REPORT MAY 13TH 2013


In New Business addressed at the regular board meeting of the Butler R-V Board of Education
Lunch Prices at the Butler R-V School district will by increase  .06 cents  for regular lunch and breakfast meals.
 The Butler School Board approved the base option for a HSA/HRA blended plan. The district will provide the base option for $371.43 and the employees can do the buy-up option PPO for $562.06 per month. With the new blended model the deductible will be $5,000, but the district will retain in a separate fund dollars that will effectively lower the deductible to $3,000.
The board voted to give all staff members their steps and review the base pay at the June board meeting. The budget has not been adopted by the state and there is still some legislative action that could influence funding.
Mr. Kirk Hannah addressed the board about the changes adopted by MSHSAA that allows for state competition with softball in the spring. Mr. Hannah is monitoring other schools that we compete with to see if they might potentially be switching to spring competition. Additionally, students will be surveyed at Butler to see if the move to a spring venue would be popular.
The Butler School Board,  reviewed bids for a set of visitor bleachers at the new football field. The board directed Alan Stauffacher to look at some modifications to the preliminary drawings so that they would be more accommodating for the  site.

Mr. Steve Hubbard and Ms. Stacey Lawson presented goals for their buildings that address the new MSIP 5 Standards.
 The Butler R-V School Board received a proposal from Leon Decker to modify the length of the land lease from 3 to 5 years so that additional improvements to the site could be made. The board agreed that the district would keep the land lease for 3 years.
In Closed Session: The board accepted the resignations of Lori West, Ashli Cox, and Sandra Debrick.
The board hired Susan Bernt, special education; Mellisa Cook, high school math; Neta Apple, high school science; Stephanie McSperritt, elementary teacher; Michelle Carter, elementary teacher.
The Butler R-V School Board  hired summer school staff.
