On Friday May 17, the Butler Bears competed in the state track meet. The weather was beautiful and the atmosphere could not be better. All the athletes competed very well in their events and have a lot to be excited about. To make finals and make it to the medal stand an athlete must qualify in the top 8 of their event. Here are the results of the Girls State Track Meet Qualifiers:
Kiersten Morris: 100 Hurdles- 10th place with a time of 16.64. Kiersten missed qualifying for finals by .30 seconds. Kiersten had a great season and is anxiously looking forward to next year’s track season!
300 Hurdles- 15th place with a time of 50.27. This race was a little tougher. Kiersten gave it her all, but there were some outstanding times turned in for the prelims in this race.
Kayla Morris: 100 Dash- 11th place with a time of 13.09. Kayla missed qualifying for the finals in this race by .12 seconds. Kayla had a great season and is ready to see what she can accomplish next year!
200 Dash- 9th place with a time of 26.53. Kayla missed qualifying for the finals in this race by an even closer .06 seconds and one place. Half a second separated 9th and 4th place.
It was a pleasure being around all of the track kids this past weekend and seeing what responsible, driven, young adults they are! They all have the passion, and without that passion this weekend wouldn’t have been possible for them. I always enjoy seeing the kids perform at state, but this year was a little different but in a good way! We had student athletes competing in 7 out of the 18 events and Friday was a blast getting to stay for the duration of the meet and watch the boys and girls compete in the prelims for a chance to run in the finals on Saturday and earn a place on that podium! Everyone gave their all! It was a great season and I am already looking forward to the next one! Thanks to all who have helped out in any manner! I appreciate you all!!
