A multitude of people attend the Bates County Fair every year, and this year is no different. If you are attending the Bates County Fair you may have noticed a large “light bulb” shaped apparition at the Bates County Fairgrounds. This is Big Voice.
Big Voice is a portable siren that is owned by Region A Homeland Security, which is based in Warrensburg. Big Voice is the community’s tax dollars coming back to benefit the community through Homeland Security. It has many different siren sounds, each for a different siren emergency. Those siren sounds include: Lightening Warning, Tornado Warning, Evacuation, All Clear, Testing, Star Spangled Banner, Public Announcement (PA), and Chimes. Should the Butler sirens go off before Thursday July 18th, when it will be returned to Warrensburg, Big Voice will also go off as it is at the same frequency as the other sirens in Butler.
Big Voice is just one of the many emergency resources the community could call on through Homeland Security in the case of an emergency. All of Missouri has access to these resources should there be an emergency. Big Voice could have been seen in Joplin after the devastation caused by the Joplin Tornado.
Big Voice is designed to go where there is a large population of people gathering. Because of this design it is not only on display at the Bates County Fair, but it will also be at the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia. The State Fair will run August 8ththrough August 18th.
