Missouri State Fair attendees find more than $58,000 in Unclaimed Property One lucky fairgoer found $4,000 
 
SEDALIA, Mo. – State Treasurer Clint Zweifel (ZWY-ful) announced today 653 fair attendees found more than $58,000 inUnclaimed Property at the Missouri State Fair. This includes one lucky fairgoer who found $4,000 in Unclaimed Property. Treasurer Zweifel’s staff conducted more than 1,800 searches and talked to thousands of fairgoers about finding their Unclaimed Property.

Every summer, my Unclaimed Property team helps hundreds of Missourians find their property at the Missouri State Fair,” Treasurer Zweifel said. “Returning Unclaimed Property to its rightful owners is an important part of my job as your State Treasurer. I work hard every day to find new partners and tools to make it easier for Missourians to find and claim their property. The Missouri State Fair is one of these partners, and I am proud of the work my Unclaimed Property team does to inform Missourians about Unclaimed Property at the fair.”

About Treasurer Zweifel’s Unclaimed Property

The State law requires financial institutions, insurance companies, public agencies and other business entities to turn over assets to Treasurer Zweifel that belong to a customer, client, employee or other owner if there have been no documented transactions or contact with the owner for five or more years.  Most Unclaimed Property consists of cash from bank accounts, stocks, bonds and contents of safe deposit boxes that have been abandoned. It also can include uncollected insurance policy proceeds, government refunds, utility deposits and wages from past jobs. Treasurer Zweifel does not handle real property such as land and houses or certain types of personal property such as cars and boats. There is $760 million in Unclaimed Property maintained by Treasurer Zweifel. Treasurer Zweifel never charges for the return of Unclaimed Property.
