On
9/20/13, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Hume area in reference to stolen
saddles. On 9/15/13 a business in Rural
Vernon County was burglarized and several items including saddles. The saddles belonged to two residents of
Bates County and were at that location to be repaired.
On
9/20/13 the Deputies made contact with three subjects. The three subjects were riding horses. Initially the subjects denied having the
saddles or having knowledge of the saddles.
The three told different stories about how they obtained the saddles and
gear that they were utilizing that day.
The
three were taken into custody and transported to the Sheriff’s Office. During interviews at the office Deputies were
given consent to search one of the subjects residence. Deputies recovered multiple items that are
believed to be stolen from several burglaries, including several guns.
Information
developed by Bates County through interviews and working with the victims on
the case has led the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office to recover the stolen
saddles.
The
case is ongoing and has been submitted to the Bates County Prosecutors
Office.
