On Monday,
Sept 9, the Butler Bears junior high football travelled to Sherwood for their
opening game of the season against the Sherwood Marksmen. The Bears lost a tough game by a final score
of 18-32. Cole Kuda scored two
touchdowns for the Bears, including a 73 yard kickoff return and a 46 yard
fumble return. Martin Melhuish scored
the Bears only offensive touchdown in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter
on a 46 yard touchdown run. The Marksmen,
however, rushed the ball very successfully against the Bears for most of the
game, slowly wearing down the Bears defense for 5 steady scores over 4
quarters.
Defensively,
Martin Melhuish led the Bears with 12 tackles.
He also intercepted a Marksmen pass in the red zone in the closing
minute of the first half to keep the Bears only behind by a 14-12 score at
half.

to Lee Summit Christian for their next game on Monday, Sept 16, at 5 pm.
