The Adrian Optimist Club is pleased to
honor Students of the Month from the Miami, Ballard, and Adrian
schools. Criteria for this honor center on outstanding academic and
civic achievement and school spirit. Staff at each of the schools
make the selection, and their decision is based on expansion of these
criteria. Selection is based on the criteria, but a student
stepping up to a particular task will come to play in it. Each
student is honored with a certificate of recognition from the Adrian
Optimist Club and $20.00 in Adrian Chamber of Commerce “Chamber
Bucks”.

The Miami student for September is
David Weaver. David, a senior, is the son of Ron Brown and Mechelle
Weaver. He is relatively new to Miami, but really enjoys the
school, especially FFA. David is also active in Boy Scouts of
America. Miss Hoog, teacher at Miami, states that David has been a
wonderful addition to our school this year. In his short time here
his positive attitude, kind heart, and respectful manor has stood out
and been appreciated by both students and faculty. He is a very
bright and hardworking young man with potential for a very successful
future. David is looking for the right college at which to earn a
degree in business management.

The Ballard Student of the Month is
Patryk Sickels, senior son of Charles and Sheryl Sickels. Social
Studies instructor and Pep Club coordinator, Kate Bell, states that
“Patryk was elected President of the Pep Club and helped make sure
that the Pep Club has gotten off to a good start. He helped make the
great looking banner for the Lady Bulldog volleyball players. He is
hard working, courteous and always willing to help. Boys Basketball
Coach, Troy Engelhart, adds “Patryk has stepped up as a leader.
His strong work ethic and attitude have him leading by example and
his teammates have responded by ‘upping’ their game/intensity to
match (his). He wants to be the first one in the gym and is willing
to do whatever it takes to get the job done.

The Adrian student this month is
freshman Riley Zalis. Riley is the daughter of Sara Vick and Jeff
Vick, and this is her first year at Adrian. Her activities in school
include FFA and FBLA. Adrian staff say Riley is their sure selection
for this honor. Riley has a saying which is dear to her: “courage
doesn’t always roar, sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the
end of the day saying I’ll try again tomorrow”. Her plans for
the future include a medical degree from University of Missouri at
Kansas City.
