The Missouri Insurance Department Warning About Scammers

The Missouri Insurance Department has issued warnings to consumers about scammers using the Affordable Care Act as a ploy to get your personal information and money.

This week, the Missouri Insurance Department recommended, “Missourians should first make sure they are dealing with a licensed insurance agent (producer) or navigator.”
Here are some red flags.

1) If you get an unsolicited phone call or email from someone trying to sell insurance, be wary. Remember, the government does not contact consumers to sell insurance.

2)  If someone tries to pressure you into buying a policy because the rate is only good for a short time, that is a red flag.  Remember, exchange enrollment is open until March 31, 2014.

3)  If a salesman says you could go to jail for not having health insurance, that's wrong.   You will not face jail time.
