Bates County Sheriff's Office Press Release: Rural Pursuit Ends In Foot Chase


 On Sunday, November 11, 2013, Deputies were called to assist the Missouri State Highway Patrol after a vehicle had fled from a vehicle stop. The pursuit began northwest of Butler and ended just north of 52 in area known as Coleman’s Junk Yard. The vehicle found parked outside one of the trailers was abandoned. The owner of the vehicle was located at that residence but was not the driver of the vehicle. The driver had fled on foot in an unknown direction.

Additional Deputies were called in an attempt to search for the subject. Bates County K9 Lecter hand several deputies searched on foot for a couple of hours. The subject was not located in the area and the search was called off. Attempts were made by Deputies to notify area residents.

We believe that the subject knew the area since he drove the vehicle to the owner’s house and was comfortable with the hiding place he was at. The owner of the vehicle claims to have just met the subject that borrowed his truck. The owner of the truck was arrested and transported to jail for questioning on an unrelated burglary.
