Clinton Police Engage Suicidal Man
At 9:15 A.M. on Sunday morning, Clinton Police
Officers were dispatched to the area of 2nd and Green Streets in
reference to a man standing in the intersection holding a knife to his
throat. Upon arrival officers began talking to the man and he stated
many times that he had a desire to kill himself. The man had made
several superficial cuts to his neck during that time. In an effort to
save the man from damaging himself further, an officer shot the man with
a Taser and when that failed to stop him he began running from them.
During the foot pursuit of the man, he suddenly turned and held the
knife out in the direction of the officers. An officer struck the man
several times in the wrist and arm causing him to drop the knife and
fall to the ground. The man was then controlled and handcuffed behind
his back. An ambulance was summoned to the scene. The man was then
transported to the Golden Valley Hospital Emergency Room. The man
stated that he has been suffering from mental illness and has been using
methamphetamine. He was treated and committed to a mental health
facility for a 96 hour evaluation.
