This is real, it is legit, and it is BAD. This is a REMINDER: DO NOT CLICK ON PROGRAMS OR FILES IN EMAIL IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE.
This virus is being spread via email, phishing sites, etc. BEWARE. This is a bad deal. If you get infected, your personal files (if not backed up) are GONE.
Basically, your files get encrypted and they want a ransom to give you the encryption key…. Chances are your stuff is gone.
