Obituary - Arthur Clifton Oatman, Jr.

Arthur Clifton Oatman, Jr., 86, Overland Park, Kansas, died Sunday, November 3, 2013 at Benchmark Healthcare in Harrisonville, Missouri. Memorial services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at the Belton Restoration Branch, 16630 S. Mullen Road, Belton, MO 64012. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association. 

Arthur was born June 16, 1927 in Lawrence, Kansas to Arthur Clifton and Mildred Irene (Tuttle) Oatman, Sr. He had one sister, Martha. Arthur was a 1948 graduate of the University of Kansas in Lawrence with a degree in engineering. He was in the marching band at Lawrence High School and at K.U. He also worked on the backstage crew for theatrics while at K.U.

Arthur was an electrical engineer for Black and Veatch in Kansas City for 42 years, retiring in 1990. Arthur married Norma Hart July 28, 1950 in Independence, Missouri and was the father of three sons, Wayne Arthur Oatman, Roger Keith Oatman and Ray Evan Oatman. They lived in Independence, Raytown, Prairie Village, Merriam and Overland Park. They were married for 63 years. 

He worked as an election worker and was very patriotic. His favorite song was “Stars and Stripes Forever.” Every year, he and Norma went to the cemeteries on Memorial Day and laid flowers on the graves of all the family members. 

Arthur is survived by his wife, Norma; 3 sons, Wayne (Erica), Roger (Kathleen) and Ray; 10 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
