Warning Seniors of Scams

Kander to Visit Senior Centers Across Missouri, Warn of Investment Scams Targeting Seniors

Jefferson City, Mo. — Secretary of State Jason Kander will begin a week-long statewide tour of senior centers Monday, December 9th at 11:15 a.m. at the Livingston County Senior Center in Chillicothe. Kander will talk with Missouri seniors about protecting their hard-earned savings from investment scams and unregistered investment advisers or brokers.

“It’s important to make sure our seniors are aware of investment scams that could threaten their hard-earned savings,” Kander said. “I encourage everyone to talk with friends and relatives to make sure they know how to protect themselves from scams. If you have any question—any doubt at all—about an investment proposal and/or a broker, please call my office immediately at 1-800-721-7996.”

In Missouri, a person offering or selling securities must be registered with the Missouri Securities Division in Kander’s office. Investors should always check the status of their investment advisor or broker/dealer before making an investment. Missourians can do so by calling the Investor Protection Hotline at 1-800-721-7996 or by visiting www.MissouriSafeSavings.com.
