Bridge Work Near Harrisonville

MoDOT Aims for Early Spring Repairs to Local Bridge Over I-49

HARRISONVILLE – MoDOT has contracted HDR Engineering to design repairs to the East Outer Road Bridge over I-49, one mile northwest of Harrisonville, with the expectation that it can be redecked and opened by early summer.

The bridge was closed Dec. 10 following a routine inspection that showed continued deterioration of a structural element. It will remain closed until permanent repairs are completed. Initial inspection convinced MoDOT engineers that no safe temporary repair could be made to re-open the bridge sooner. MoDOT has chosen to accelerate previously scheduled deck replacement and structural repairs and re-open the bridge as soon as possible.

The bridge, which connects Rockhaven Road with Peculiar Drive over I-49 northwest of Harrisonville, was scheduled for rehabilitation and deck replacement in 2016. MoDOT plans to open bids on the contract on Feb. 14 so that construction can begin as soon as the contractor can mobilize and weather will allow. Design engineers expect the bridge to re-open no later than July 1, but possibly weeks earlier if material manufacturing and weather don’t create delays.
Local access remains available by way of Peculiar Drive from the north and Rockhaven Road from the south.
