Adrian Man Arrested On Class B Felony Possession Of Child Pornography

Last October, The Bates County Sheriff’s Office received information of a subject in rural Adrian being in possession of Child Pornography. The case was immediately assigned to the Detectives for investigation. Detectives from the Bates County Sheriff’s Office reached out to the Western Missouri Cyber Crimes Taskforce. Together they began working on leads and obtain evidence to support the information. With the assistance of the Heart of American Regional Computer Forensics Laboratory enough evidence was obtained to apply for a search warrant of the residence.

On February 3, Members of the Bates County Sheriff’s Office and the Western Missouri Cyber Crimes Taskforce, executed a search warrant at RR2 Box 474 Adrian Missouri. During the search of the residence a laptop computer, desktop computer and two cell phones were confiscated. Those items will be sent to the HARCFL for additional examination.

Nicholas T Batterton, 23, was taken into custody at the residence and transported to the Bates County Sheriff’s Office. Batterton was charged with a Class B Felony of Possession of Child Pornography and bond $50,000.00 cash or surety. 

The case is still under investigation and more charges could be handed down when the evidence returns from the Computer Laboratory.

Sheriff Anderson says, “We take these cases serious and ask if you have any information about cases like this please contact us. Child pornography is not a victimless crime and to combat this type of crime we need the public’s help in reporting these incidents.”
