Vernon County Jail Inmates working at Recycling Center |
Vernon County Jail inmates began working at the Vernon County
Recycling Center Monday morning with the start of a new program aimed at
helping people sentenced to jail repay their housing cost, and gain a workers
program certificate from the Sheriff’s Office upon completion of the program.
Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher said they had been looking for new programs
to help inmates get a better start when they are released from jail, “I think
this is a great program to get started and it puts some of the inmates in a
constructive environment.” The Sheriff also said no inmates with violence
related charges will be eligible at the moment because inmates selected for
this program are placed on “work release” which means they will be under the
supervision of the Recycling Center supervisors while working, and then will go
back to the jail at the end of the work day. Inmates will also receive credit
towards their housing bill for their time worked.
