Most stories that don't get follow up are accidents or other minor incidents. As soon as possible, we post that authorities have been dispatched to the scene; then our readers eagerly await to find out who it was and what happened. However, the Missouri Highway Patrol, for example, doesn't make public the accident record unless there was injury or death. Likewise, our local police often do the same, and hence, no follow up information to publish. With that said, we would like to say a hearty 'thank you' to our local police who do often go above and beyond the call of duty to provide us with information whenever possible.
When we report an accident, such as the rollover involving a white SUV south of Butler recently, there were no injuries and the highway patrol did not release a report. We called MSHP and nicely asked for the info but it simply was not available. So, in that case and many like it, we initially report the accident as a public service so that anyone traveling through the area will be aware of possible delays/detours.
To help alleviate confusion in the future, we will amend the initial post to say that no report was made available and provide any additional information we may have at that time.
On a related note, we sometimes attend events where we get pictures and highlights that are happening during the event- then follow later with a full story that recaps the day's activities. Sometimes, it may be several days before we get the final results- in any case, we will always post it as soon as we get it.
Our continuing goal is to provide you with news and other important items as soon as possible!
As always, your comments and suggestions are welcomed regarding this. Feel free to post comments on our Facebook page or email bateswire@hotmail.com any time.
