Man flees from accident, arrested hours later during manhunt

A Vernon County resident was taken into custody Saturday afternoon following a lengthy foot pursuit. According to a press release from the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, a male subject fled on foot from a motor vehicle accident on E highway and ran into some nearby woods. Responding deputies set up a perimeter and waited for additional units and the departments K-9 to arrive.

Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher said off duty deputies were called out to assist with the search for the subject. “Within a short time we had seven members of the Sheriff’s Office and our K-9 on scene. We located the subject over a mile from the incident locations in a field” said Mosher. According to the press release medical personnel were requested to respond to a location where they waited for the deputies to bring the suspect to the nearest road for medical treatment.

Sheriff Mosher said his office handled the search and capture of the suspect but the accident is being investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
