BUTLER FIRE
DEPARTMENT

On Friday evening, and Saturday,
October 10th and 11th, firefighters from area departments
participated in Farm Machinery Rescue training. The class was free of
charge and provided by the University of Missouri Fire & Rescue
Training Institute and hosted by the Butler Fire Department.
Instructors for the class were Robert
Woody, retired Fire Chief of the Ft. Leonard Wood Fire Dept., and
Andy Woody, Assistant Chief of Training for the Springfield Fire
Department.
The classroom portion of the training
was Friday evening, with practical exercises on Saturday, during
which time students went to Deems Farm Equipment where they were able
to observe many varieties of equipment. Following that, students went
to the Bates County Fairgrounds where miscellaneous rescue tools were
used on actual equipment.
Departments attending included Butler, Lowry City, Montrose, Rich Hill, and Rockville.
Hopefully the skills learned in this
class will never have to be used, but students are now better
prepared should the need arise.
