Throughout his life, it can be said that Everett was public-minded. He served his community on a great many boards and organizations to include Bates County Fair Board and the Hospital board, to name only a couple. Everett will be remembered by many as someone who would clear rural roads for neighbors following hard snows; he cared for these roads year-round as well. Everett raised Guernsey cattle and showed Angus, for which he had quite an eye and repeatedly achieved top-of-market. He loved animals and was good with them, but particularly loved dogs.
Everett was preceded in death by his parents, sister Varie Thompson and brother Clyde Baker; as well as an infant daughter. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Baker of Butler; niece Jean Van Horn and husband Pete; great-nieces and great-nephews Dallas Van Horn, Kelly Deems, Shannon Van Horn, and Angela Van Horn; as well as many other nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
