Two injured in Cass County rollover accident
The Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with the Cass County Sheriffs Office responded to a one vehicle rollover accident around 12:05pm this afternoon on Missouri 2 Highway just East of Freedom Road in rural Cass County.The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2004 Ford driven by 23 year old Tionna C. Jones of Odessa, Missouri traveled off the right side of the roadway striking a ditch and fence before overturning.
Tionna C. Jones as well as a passenger in her vehicle 23 year old Babylee R. Collins of Warrensburg, Missouri both sustained minor injuries in this accident and both were transported by ambulance to Centerpoint Hospital.
The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by Johnson's Tow.

Breaking News: Wanted sex offender from St. Clair County dies in Florida while in police custody

Mr. Palmer was found deceased during medication rounds. Cause of death is unknown at this time.
On March 19, Palmer was arrested by police in Fort Lauderdale. He was wanted on a St. Clair County warrant charging him with seven felony sex crimes involving a child.
The charges stemmed from an investigation that started in August 2014 after a hotline call to Missouri Department of Social Services Children’s Division was made concerning several alleged incidents that occurred between December 2012 and June 2013 when a child was staying at Palmer’s residence.
The Missouri State Technical Assistance Team and the Clinton Police Department assisted the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office with the investigation.
Missing juvenile from Rockville area found safe in Texas

On March 19, Strickler’s uncle, who she lives with on SW 1161 Road, Rockville, reported her missing. He said he and his wife left for less than an hour and when they returned she was gone.
During the investigation information was obtained Strickler had plans to runaway and a tip was received Strickler was traveling to Texas.
Contact was made with Houston Police Department who located her and confirmed she was safe. Strickler was released into the care and custody of an immediate family member.

Pearl was raised in Nevada and attended school there. She lived for a time in the St. Louis area where she was employed as a bartender. Pearl later returned to Nevada where she has continued to reside.
Survivors include her siblings, two sisters, Emma Hartman, Nevada, and Dorothy Burris, Joplin, MO; two brothers, Bill Brokob, Girard, KS, and Joe Brokob, Neosho, MO; many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Moore Cemetery, Nevada with David Wood officiating. Friends may call now and until 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.
El Dorado Springs man arrested following weekend pursuit

An El-Dorado Springs resident is in custody after a pursuit with Vernon County Sheriff’s Deputies over the weekend. According to Sheriff’s Officials, a deputy working a special DWI detail late Friday night attempted to stop a black truck on 54 Highway when it failed to yield. The Deputy called out the pursuit and was quickly joined by additional deputies. Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher said supervisors were notified and began monitoring radio traffic during the length of the pursuit as part of a policy he put in place last year. “When a deputy calls out a pursuit, a senior member of the command staff is contacted so they can monitor the purist conditions such as speeds, reason for the stop, traffic conditions etc..” said Mosher.
The Sheriff said the deputies did an excellent job at following department policy during the pursuit which led them into Cedar County and then El-Dorado Springs before going back into Cedar County where the truck came to a stop and the driver was taken into custody.
The driver has been identified as 36 year-old Lloyd Whisler III, of El-Dorado Springs Mo. A warrant for Whisler’s arrest was issued the following day charging him with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Resisting Arrest, and Driving While Intoxicated. Whisler is being held in the Vernon County Jail on a $25,000 cash only bond.

Albert loved music and riding his four wheeler. He loved his church home and his family. He accepted Christ as his Savior at Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Micheal Gregory; one sister-in-law, Diane Gregory; and one brother-in-law, Frank Farnan.
He is survived by two brothers and two sisters, Gary Gregory, Deepwater, Linda Farnan, Gladstone, Patricia Fugitt (Larry), Deepwater, and Don Gregory (Dawn), Florida.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home of Clinton, Missouri.

Mound City Kansas man killed in Vernon County Crash
Around 5:28pm last night the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County along with assistance of the Vernon County Sheriffs Office responded to a one vehicle accident on Arnold Road around 6 miles NW of Metz, Missouri.The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2004 Chevrolet driven by 25 year old Lucas D. Owens of Mound City, Missouri struck a bridge railing and left the roadway before coming to rest in a creek bed.
Mr. Owens was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by Deputy Corner Keith Ballantyne around 17:28 hours.
A passenger in the vehicle 24 year old Heather Holloway also of Mound City, Kansas sustained moderate injuries in this accident and she was flown by Med Flight to Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Missouri for treatment.
The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by Garwood Wrecker Service of Nevada, Missouri.
This is Troop D of the Missouri State Highway Patrol's 4th Fatality accident of 2016.

Breaking News: Appleton City woman seriously injured in rollover accident
Around 6:15pm this evening the Missouri State Highway Patrol in St. Clair County responded to a one vehicle accident on Missouri P Highway around 3 miles South of Appleton City, Missouri. The Missouri State Highway says the accident occurred when the 2002 Ford Escape driven by 84 year old Betty L. Todd of Appleton City, Missouri ran off the roadway and struck a utility pole before overturning.
Betty L. Todd sustained serious injuries in this accident and she was transported to Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri.
The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by Bulldog Towing of Appleton City, Missouri.

Arma Lee Jones, age 88 of Butler, Missouri, passed away March 19, 2016 at Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler. She was born August 4, 1927, to Fred Lester and Ermine Lucy Huffman Talbot in Appleton City.
Arma Lee is survived by three sister-in-laws; Eva Jones of Peculiar, Nadine Bartimus of Clinton, and Katherine Jones of Appleton City. She is also survived by nieces and nephews; Peggy Graber and husband Jim, Casey Jones and wife Debbie, Larry Jones, Carolyn Snyder and husband Dennis, Stacie Harkrader and husband Brett, Bobbi Farmer and husband Denton and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind special friends and caretakers; Dale Morrison, Tim Morrison, Nelson and Lois Myers, Merle Mears, Maribeth Golladay, Joann Unruh, Karen Dirks, Georgetta Burton, and many other friends and neighbors. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Darwin; one brother, Joe Jimmie, brothers-in-law; Don, Dale, and Robert Jones and Carol Bartimus; and sister-in-law; Beth Jones.
Nevada Police Officer Trained in Crises Intervention Team (CIT)
Alocal law enforcement officer recently completed Crises Intervention Team (CIT) Training and joined the local CIT Coordinating Council. Nevada Police Officer Matthew Burkhead recently returned after completing an intensive week of CIT training, conducted at the Lee’s Summit, Missouri Police Department. The newly trained CIT Team member joins other Nevada Police Officers and Vernon County Deputies who serve along with the CIT Coordinating Council. The Council consists of several community partners working in the mental health career field, consumers and their families. The focus of the group is to serve the needs of the entire area in a more efficient manner, while offering guidance to local Law Enforcement.
The CIT Course is forty hours of training and includes instruction in the following topics: overview of mental illness, medication management and identification; de-escalation techniques; steps to prevent suicide; family and consumer panels; site visits; and cultural diversity.
Upon graduation, the officer was awarded a certificate of completion and a special uniform insignia which designates him as specially trained.
Police Chief Graham Burnley states, “Nevada Police Officer Matthew Burkhead joins a long list of professionals who bring a level of expertise in dealing with crises situations. The CIT Team continues to serve our community well.”

The funeral service for Kathy will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Hill and Son Funeral Home in Appleton City, Missouri. Officiating at the service will be Brother Herbert Lawson.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 23, 2016 preceding the service from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Appleton City Cemetery, Appleton City, Missouri.

Kathy Sue Rice passed away peacefully at her mother’s home in Kansas City, Missouri at 55 years of age on March 17th 2016. She was one of five children born to James Vernon and Mary Kathryn (Allis) Bryant in Appleton City, Missouri on October 25th, 1960.
Kathy spent her formative years in Kansas City, Missouri. She then moved to Appleton City with her family where she graduated from high school in 1979. After completing her education she returned to Kansas City, where she worked as an administrative assistant in the principal’s office of the school district for 17 years. Kathy later changed careers and was employed as a shipping associate for Musician’s Friend ensuring the safe passage of many instruments within the community. Aside from her career, she welcomed her only child and light of her life, Katie, into the world in 1983.
Faith always maintained a significant place in her life and she remained an active member of Church God “Holiness” for many decades. Enjoying the reputation of an excellent storyteller, she entertained friends and family with a witty personality and wonderful sense of humor. Kathy’s grandchildren, however, proved the most celebrated part of her life. No other thing was as important to her as Addie, Harrison, and Cami. “Mimi” regularly made trips with them to Worlds of Fun, the zoo, and shopping throughout the metro area. An avid writer, Kathy composed numerous poems and even a book chronicling the birth of her granddaughter. She was also in the process of composing other works for her grandchildren to read. Apart from her skill with the pen, Kathy proved an excellent cook, an avid reader of all genres, and an enthusiastic gardener with a remarkable “green thumb.” Rarely did you see Kathy without a book in her hands and grandkids by her side.
Kathy was preceded in death by her “Grampy” Ralph and “Gram” Waneta (Moore) Allis. She is survived by one daughter Katie Rice; her companion Junior Cooper; her parents James and Mary Bryant; grandchildren: Addie, Harrison “hairball,” and Cami; sisters Verna Basham (Dennis), Brenda Lawson, Mary Ellen Stivers; brother: Jimmy Bryant; Nieces and nephews: Waneta Bryant, Clarissa Boxwell, Jennifer Riddle (John), Jennifer Hershberger (Eric), Alicia Quick (Keith), Sharon Mundy (Kyle), Kevin Basham, Richard Lawson, Elizabeth Stivers, Randell Stivers; and many other family members and dear friends. Kathy will be deeply missed by all her friends and family who dearly loved her.

Travis lived in Vernon County his whole life attending Nevada Schools. He worked on the family dairy farm from the age of 12 and continued working until the operation was converted to beef cattle in 2009. He worked as a foreman for Top Knotch Wood for 20 Years. Travis loved to travel going to places like Colorado’s Royal Gorge, the Florida Keys, Mexico, the Bahamas, the Cayman Islands, Hawaii and most recently he took a cruise to Alaska. He loved his family, his friends and the animals he cared for throughout his life.
He is survived by his mother Sandra Connelly, Nevada; one brother, Tracy Connelly and wife Destiny, Nevada; two sisters, Pam McNeil and husband Bill, Bronaugh, and Nancy Davison and husband Kirk, Sheldon; nine nieces and nephews; nine great nieces and nephews; numerous aunts uncles and cousins; and two special friends, Tim Downen and Ray Igou and their families, Sheldon.
Travis was preceded in death by his father and two nephews, Cody Jenkins and Adam Davisson.
A memorial service will be held at a later date with family and friends. Arrangements are under the direction of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
One injured in Henry County accident
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2014 Chevrolet driven by 63 year old Richard L. Flint of Walnut Grove, Missouri traveled off the roadway and struck a stop sign.
Mr. Flint sustained moderate injuries in this accident and he was transported by ambulance to Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton.
The vehicle was totaled in this accident and towed from the scene by Golden Valley Tow.

Assistance needed in reference to missing juvenile from Rockville area

He said he and his wife left for less than an hour and when they returned she was gone. Information was obtained Strickler had plans to runaway. She is described as 5 feet 4 inches tall, 155 pounds, with long brown hair. Law enforcement and family are concerned for Strickler’s welfare.

Sentimental waters: A return to days spent with Virgil Ward

| Virgil Ward, who passed away in 2004, was a
fishing legend. He hosted a nationally syndicated television show, was a
tournament champion and was a pioneer in the lure industry.

When I was younger, I never pictured myself as the sentimental type.
I would look at my dad when he saw an old friend or listen when he talked about how much he loved our old family cabin, and I thought, “That will never be me.”
But life has a way of changing people. The longer you live, the more special the days of your past become.
And so it was with me when I revisited my younger days by returning to the farm ponds I used to fish with the legendary Virgil Ward, the TV show host and lure designer who passed away in 2004.
I was invited back by Virgil’s grandson, Eric Curnutte, a friendly young man who is determined to keep his late grandfather’s legacy alive.

Two from Nevada among injured in Cedar County Crash

The Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cedar county says the accident occurred when the 2012 Chevrolet Traverse driven by 38 year old Amy Bruce of Nevada, Missouri ran into a hay trailer being pulled by a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 26 year old Johnathan Wilson of Jerico Springs, Missouri.
Amy Bruce as well as a passenger in her vehicle 59 year old Lillian Long also of Nevada, Missouri both sustained minor injuries in this accident and both were transported to Nevada Regional Medical Center by ambulance.
Mr. Wilson sustained minor injuries in this accident and he was transported by ambulance to Cedar County Memorial Hospital.
The Chevrolet Traverse was totaled in this accident and towed from the scene by Steward's Wrecker Service of Eldorado Springs, Missouri.

Wanted St. Clair County Sex Offender Arrested In Florida

The sheriff said Palmer will be extradited back to Missouri as soon as possible to face the charges.
Palmer is charged with class B felony child molestation-first degree, an unclassified felony charge of attempted statutory rape-first degree, three unclassified felony charges of statutory sodomy-first degree-deviate sexual intercourse with a person less than 14-years-old, an unclassified felony charge of enticement of a child (actor is 21-years of age or older and child is less than 15-years-old), and a class C felony charge of sexual misconduct or attempt involving a child under 15-years-old second and subsequent offense.
The charges stem from an investigation that started in August 2014 after a hotline call to Missouri Department of Social Services Children’s Division was made concerning several alleged incidents that occurred between December 2012 and June 2013 when a child was staying at Palmer’s residence. The Missouri State Technical Assistance Team and the Clinton Police Department assisted the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office with the investigation.
In September 2015 Palmer was out of jail on bond and cut off his court ordered electronic GPS ankle bracelet.

Obituary - Joyce May Elder
Joyce May Elder, 55, Nevada, MO passed from this life on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at her home in Nevada. Joyce was born August 22, 1960 in Ottawa, KS to Lindsay Ray and Laure Mabel (Lester) Elder.
Joyce was raised in Wellsville, KS. Throughout the years she lived in various places including Ottawa, KS, Chicago, IL, Montana, and Texas. It is said “to have been around the block.” Joyce has worked at various area nursing facilities for the past 40 years. Her residence has been Nevada the past 13 years. Joyce had a love for panda bears, doing crossword puzzles, reading books, and drawing. She enjoyed listening to REO Speedwagon, and Bruce Springsteen. She also had a great love and respect for Veterans.
Survivors include her husband, Ken, of the home (originally from Chicago); her daughter Andrea Casida, Nevada; her siblings, Lindsay Elder, Jr., Thompson Falls, MT, Frances Pearsall and her husband Irvin, Troy, MT, Patty Sheler and her husband Clifford, Ottawa, Walter Elder, Ottawa, Barbara McDaniel, Florida, and Alice Calahan, Virginia; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Diane Rose Casida.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Verizon Wireless Antenna Tower Shot near LaCygne
On March 15 or 16 someone shot a Verizon Wireless antenna on a tower in the LaCygne area. In addition to the cost of replacing the antenna, approximately $15,000, cell phone service to that tower was interrupted. Anyone with information on this or other crimes should contact the Linn County Sheriff’s Office at 913-795-2665 or the Linn County Crime Stoppers at 800-471-TIPS.

Adrian teen injured in Cass County Crash
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2006 Pontiac driven by 16 year old Brendan R. Shackles of Adrian, Missouri traveled off the right side of the roadway overcorrected before striking a ditch and overturning coming to rest in a field.
Mr. Shackles sustained minor injuries in this accident and he was transported by private vehicle to Cass Regional Medical Center in Harrisonville, Missouri.
The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by Adrian Towing.

Butler teacher found in sticky situation

Mr. Miller was taped to the wall today at the assembly by 4th grade for raising the most for Hoops for Heart (American Heart Assoc.) and Coach Allen made all of his announcements wearing his beautiful red dress and will also be rewarding all students for their hard work with a dunk tank at the PTSO Fun Day on May 6th.

In 1976 he married the love of his life, Gwen Roeder, in Nevada, Missouri and she survives of the home. In addition to his wife he is survived by a daughter, Stephanie Schoolcraft McCuen, a son-in-law, Doug McCuen, a grandson, Nicholas McCuen all of San Antonio, Texas, a brother, Paul Schoolcraft, D.D.S. of Denver, CO, a niece and nephew and cousins.
Frank received the Sacraments of the Roman Catholic Church shortly before his death.
Viewing and the rosary followed by the Mass of Christian Burial will begin at St. Mary Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. on March 22, 2016. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church in his memory.

City of Butler flushing hydrants
The City of Butler will be flushing hydrants in all areas South of Ohio Street starting April 6TH and 7th, 2016 and continuing again on April 13th and 14th, 2016. Flushing hydrants are a routine maintenance activity of the Water Distribution Department and Fire Department. This work will occur mainly during the late evening and overnight hours for the convenience of our customers and will be primarily Wednesdays and Thursdays. This work should take approximately two weeks.The residents in this area may experience some rusty water and should exercise caution when washing white fabrics. If you notice any staining of white fabrics, do not dry the material but repeat the wash cycle.

Friday Flash Back: Remembering Hotel Harrisonville
In 1983, the Harrisonville square lost a longstanding landmark.Hotel Harrisonville, which stood on the north side of the square, was nearly completely destroyed by fire.
The third floor of the building was completely destroyed, while the first and second floors sustained heavy damage, according to articles in the Democrat.
But luckily, no one was harmed in the blaze, and firemen and volunteers kept the blaze from spreading to other edifices and potentially burning down an entire section of the square.

Obituary - Mary Lou Minich-Davis
The Funeral Service for Mary Lou will be held Monday, March 21, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Hill and Son Funeral Home in Appleton City, Missouri. There will be no public visitation for Mary Lou, friends may call at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Englewood Cemetery, Clinton, Missouri. The family suggests any Memorial donations be given to First Baptist Church in Appleton City or the MS Society. Mary Lou (Hickman) Minich-Davis, daughter of Charles W. and Katie A. (Wyman) Hickman was born in Kansas City, Kansas on December 29, 1929. She passed away Thursday, March 17, 2016 at Appleton City Manor Nursing Home in Appleton City, Missouri. She was 86.
Mary Lou was united in marriage to Emmett E. Minich on October 2, 1948 at their friends’ house in rural Montrose, Missouri. Emmett passed away in January of 1995. In November of 1996 she married Estell Davis. Estell passed away in 1997.
Mary Lou worked with her husband, Emmett on their farm in Montrose and also drove a school bus for their bus company. In 1965, she and Emmett moved to a farm in rural Appleton City, Missouri where they raised registered Holstein cows for Cloverleaf Dairy. She also sold life insurance for many years.
Mary Lou was very active in her Faith and service to the Lord as long as her health permitted, teaching Sunday School and Bible study for many years. She was a member of Round Prairie Baptist Church, First Baptist Church in Appleton City, then Hopedale Baptist Church in Ozark, Missouri.
Family was very important to Mary Lou. She had a big part in helping raise her four siblings. She enjoyed having her family come visit her. She treasured her grandchildren.
She loved sewing, quilting, gardening, canning and playing cards. She and Emmett loved to travel. They visited many places in the United States as well as the Panama Canal and places in Europe. They enjoyed taking cruises.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Emmett Minich and Estell Davis; son David E. Minich, brother John Hickman and sister-in-law Leta Minich.
Mary Lou is survived by her daughter Diane Padgett (Tony); son Dan Minich (Karen); daughter-in-law Verna Rae Minich; grandchildren: Scott Minich, Ryan Minich, Spirit Minich (partner, Rhonda Hodges), Tara Thatcher, Brian Thatcher, Traci Uptegrove (Steve), LeAnn Bull (Justin) and Megan Pflug (Cord); great grandchildren: Samantha, Skylar, Jocelyhn Lang, Jacob, Lydia, Ava, Tristin and Ethan; siblings: Betty Reece (Dick), Phyllis Davis (Cary), Jim Hickman and sister-in-law Judy Hickman; Estell’s children: Dennis, Darren, Darla and Denise.

Around 8:40 am this morning the Butler Police Department took a report at 1011 North Orange Street of a stolen silver in color 1997 Chevrolet 4x4 truck with a Missouri License plate of 72A - 0YC. The truck was last seen early this morning and it has black plastic tool box in the back of it.

Harrisonville man arrested in Garden City
At approximately 1:20 hours, Officers of the Garden City Police Department checked the speed of a vehicle on 307th street traveling 68 in a 45 mile an hour posted zone. The vehicle was driven by 37 year old man from Harrisonville, Mo. A records check of the driver relieved his driver's license was revoked. The driver was arrested for driving while revoked, no insurance, failure to register a motor vehicle, unlawful use of license plates. He was booked at the Garden City Police Department
