Lee Ann Smith, 64, of Nevada, MO, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at
Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada. She was born on July 5, 1952 in
Pittsburg, KS to Rex Wamsley Smith and Virginia Lee (Evans) Smith. Lee
Ann graduated from Liberal High School, received her Education Degree at
MSSU and Master’s Degree at Pitt State.
She taught for two years at the
Bronaugh School then transferred to Nevada Schools where she taught
third grade until her retirement. She was an active member of the Nevada
United Methodist Church, where she participated in the Bell Choir. She
was also a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and Retired Teachers
Association. Lee Ann doted on her nieces and nephews and was very
involved with their lives.
After retirement she spent a lot of time
taking care of the Morris children and had a close association with the
teachers she had worked with. Lee Ann will be remembered by her family
and friends as being very devoted to her teaching profession, as a
caring and loving sister, aunt and friend. Survivors include one
brother, Jon Gregory Smith (Connie), Lamar, MO; niece and nephews Kati
Wolfe (Adam), Marki Barton (Bryce), all of Liberal, and David (Elena),
Villa Park, IL; great nieces and nephews, Alexys, Abby, and Ally Barton,
Rolli, Harper, Trip, and Dax Wolf. She was preceded in death by her
parents.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 9,
2016 at the United Methodist Church, Nevada, with Rev. Sharon Freeman
officiating. Interment will follow in Liberal City Cemetery. Friends may
call now and 9:00 a.m. the day of service at Ferry Funeral Home,
Nevada.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. prior
to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the Children’s
Miracle Network or the First United Methodist Church in care of the
Ferry Funeral Home.
