Charles “Charlie” R. Sweet, 74, Harrisonville, Missouri, died Tuesday, September 20, 2016 in Madison Wisconsin. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Faith Baptist Church in Harrisonville with visitation from 10:00-11:30. 

Burial will be in Garden City Cemetery, Garden City, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Baptist Church, P.O. Box 345, Harrisonville, MO 64701 or American Heart Association (americanheart.org).

Charlie was born August 22, 1942 in rural Garden City, Missouri, the son of Bruce Miles and Ada Bertha (Zimmerman) Sweet, Sr. He was a graduate of Archie High School. He married Patricia Ann “Patt” Slocum on August 25, 1962 at the Loma Vista Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri.

Charlie worked for Honeywell (Bendix) for 31 years before retiring in 1992 as a coordinator planner. He was currently working for Atkinson Funeral Home as a funeral director, where he had worked since February 1, 1995. Charlie loved to golf and was a member of the Chili Dippers golf group for years. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of the Deacons. He had served as a deacon at various churches for 45 years. Charlie also had been a Sunday school teacher for many years, sang in the church choir, and was a member of the men’s quartet. He was also a member of the Cass Masonic Lodge #147 in Harrisonville.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Herbert Eugene Sweet and Bruce Miles Sweet, Jr. He is survived by his bride of 54 years, Patt of the home; two sons, Ronald “Keith” Sweet (wife, Janet), Edwardsville, Illinois, Charles Blakely “Blake” Sweet (wife, Patricia, Harrisonville, Missouri; four sisters, Elaine McVay (husband, Clarence), Harrisonville, Missouri, Rosemary Peterson (husband, Larry), Archie, Missouri, Ruth Ann Burgess (husband, John), Benton, Arkansas, Bonnie Young (husband, Forrest), Carthage, Missouri; 11 grandchildren, Adam and Andrew Kilker, Colleen, Sean, Connor, Jack Sweet; Kelsey Urioste (husband, Gustavo), Kayden, Carter, Kinzie, and Karissa Sweet.
