Arrested made in Arson of a construction trailer at Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton

Around 8:04pm last night the Clinton Fire Department was was dispatched to a construction trailer on fire at Golden Valley Memorial Hospital located at 1600 N 2nd St, in Clinton, MO.

When the fire crews arrived on scene they found a fully engulfed construction trailer. The crews quickly got the fire under control around 8:30pm and due to the suspicious nature of the fire and evidence found on scene, fire officials requested a response from the Missouri State Fire Marshals Office to assist in the investigation. 

The construction trailer is owned by Murray Company which is the general contractor for construction work in progress at the hospital. Damages to the structure and contents are estimated at $24,000.

After investigation it was determined that the fire was intentionally set and the Clinton Police Department arrested a person of interest.

The suspect was identified as 27 year old Shelby Michael Smith of Memphis, Missouri he was arrested and charged with 2nd Degree Arson and he was placed on a $10,000 cash/surety bond.
