Bucket list: Check this one done...

1989: Scott Wilson and his prized 1971
Chevy 4x4
A local man fulfilled a dream over the weekend, achieving a 'bucket list' item that would be the envy of most any car enthusiast out there- getting to work behind the scenes at the Mecum auto auction held at Bartle Hall in Kansas City.

Scott Wilson of Harrisonville got to do just that, and is both humbled and thrilled by the experience at the auction on Saturday. He was chosen to be a driver for cars headed to the center stage auction block.

"For any true car buff, this is something you have to do. It's one of those real bucket list items" said Wilson by phone today, who got to drive a total of three cars across the stage.

A real bonus was getting to choose which cars you drive. "You pick the car you want and put your hat in the seat. I went to do just that in a Lamborghini Gallardo, but there was already a hat in the seat".

Wilson wasn't bothered by that. His hat did go into the seat of a 1972 Camaro, a 1975 K5 Chevy Blazer and a 1986 Buick Grand National turbo. His favorite? The Camaro. "It was a nice resto mod car. Corvette engine, modified suspension and chassis, disc brakes and all. Really nicely done". Unfortunately, the car didn't reach the $45,000 reserve price. It got close at $41,000.

With pass in hand, Scott Wilson is ready to
cross the stage at the Mecum Auto Auction
at Bartle Hall on Saturday
Driving at a Mecum auction does offer a few minutes of fame when the camera comes inside the car for an interior view, driver and all. There is video floating around of Wilson, all smiles, inside the Camaro.

He was quick to point out that Saturday was the best day to be a part of the auction, since the most expensive cars are sold the last day; and the holding area will filled with about anything you could imagine from high end vintage trucks to race cars.

A love for cars and trucks goes deep with Wilson. One of his first projects was breathing new life into his 1971 Chevy 4x4 truck that was truly a labor of love that started at age 13- financed by selling aluminum cans and whatever else he could do to make money.

And all that certainly paid off for Scott. His prized possession has been featured on the cover of Four Wheeler magazine and has won numerous trophies over the years.

In his spare time, Scott spends a lot of time in his shop building more projects and painting, which is something he's well known for.

As far as the auction business goes? "I'll do it again if I can. Next time they come to town, I'll be there if at all possible!".
Thumbs up and ready to go Scott Wilson behind the wheel of a 1972 Camaro he
drove across the stage at Bartle Hall this weekend
