James W. “Jim” Winters |
James W. “Jim” Winters, age 82, of Louisburg, Kansas and formerly of Drexel, Missouri, passed away on December 4, 2016 at the Louisburg Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Louisburg, Kansas. Graveside memorial services will be held 2:00 pm Friday, December 9, 2016 in Glenwild Cemetery, Cleveland, Missouri. No visitation. Contributions are suggested to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. James was born in Cleveland, Missouri to John and Florence Kircher Winters on September 13, 1934. In 1952. He graduated from Louisburg High School in Louisburg, Kansas and he served in the military receiving an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army in 1959. He worked at Bendix Aviation Corporation for 19 years. Jim became a Christian and followed the Lord in water baptism in 1962, while attending Pearl Street Baptist Church in Paola, Kansas. In 1970, he moved to Dixon, Missouri where he, along with an Army buddy Burl Copeland, co-owned and operated Triangle Pump Company. Jim had a love for bluegrass music and won many awards in fiddle competitions. He was accompanied as a young person by his father and later on, by his son Devin. He played fiddle for the bands, The Bluegrass Five as well as Bill Jones and the Bluegrass Travelers. Jim also recorded several albums with them.
James is preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; son, Devin Winters; and a brother-in-law, Claude Taylor.
James is survived by a daughter, Trudi Fletcher (husband Dan) of Florida, a sister, Mary Ann Taylor of Linn Valley, Kansas, two grandchildren, Curtis William Winters and Lena Mae Shelton, as well as five great-grandchildren, and several cousins.
