Drexel Board of Education meeting minutes

Prior to the board meeting, students who scored proficient or advanced or who improved a level on the 2016 MAP/EOC tests or scored at or above the state average on the ACT were recognized for their academic achievements.

Board approved the consent agenda, which included the minutes of the February 20th, 2017 meeting, the warrant report, payment of bills, treasurer’s report and petty cash report, along with administrative reports (attached).
Board approved the departmentalization of 4th – 6th grade classes for next school year.
Board heard information regarding the survey results for the 4-day school week. Overall there were 320 surveys returned with 75.3% in favor, 12.5% opposed, and 12.2% were unsure. The district will be hosting a community forum on April 5th.
Board tabled action on the transportation contract with Gunnels Bus Service until more was known about the school calendar for 2017-2018.
Board heard a presentation from representatives from LJ Hart Company regarding the possible refunding/refinancing of the 2014 General Obligation Bonds – no action was taken.
Board approved a 1:1 Technology Initiative. Students in grades 3-12 will each have their own Chromebook and students in grades K-2 will each have their own tablet beginning in 2017-2018.
Board approved the health insurance renewal for 2017-2018 with MEUHP.

Ryan Hoden was approved to receive Tenure contract.
The following tenured teachers were approved; Dea Ann Ackermann, Julia Barbarick, Judy Daniel, Phillip Dean, Elaine Hamilton, Jill Marks, Brenda Meerkatz, Kristie Musick, Tiffany Richmond, Kelly Sims, Jenny Wheeler, Jessica Boydston, Melissa Busch, Larry Reynolds, Donna Rooney, Ken Shipps.
The following probationary teachers were approved; Meka Bauer, Pam Bolton, Eliza Konrade, Melissa Oram, Lori Reed, Brad Rolfs, Nicole Thurman, Cindy Apple, Amanda Johnson, Tim Latham, Rachel Livesay, Chrystal Mayfield, Dakota Tucker.
