Drexel man escapes injury in airplane accident

According to reports by the Kansas Highway Patrol, a Cass county Mo pilot walked away from an accident that occurred while attempting an apparent emergency landing on a road in McPherson county Ks. on Thursday.

The pilot was identified as Randal S. Shannon of Drexel, Mo., who was alone in the single engine airplane at the time of the incident.

The KHP report indicates that Shannon was attempting to land on the roadway when a gust of wind flipped the plane over, causing what appears to be moderate damage to the wings and propeller.

Shannon had left the scene and his whereabouts were unknown when first responders arrived.

The highway patrol did make contact with him Friday, at which time the FAA and NTSB were also made aware of the incident.

Shannon was in route to a business meeting in McPherson county when the accident occurred.
