Jean L. Murphy, 88 of Butler, Missouri passed away March 29, 2017 at Carnegie Assisted Living in Belton, Missouri. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Saturday, April 1, 2017 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Butler with Fr. Tom Hermes as Celebrant. 

Visitation will be prior to Mass from 9-10 AM also at the church. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Butler. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Messages of condolence for the family may be left at www.mullinaxfuneralhome.com.
 
(In her own words; this obituary penned by Mrs. Murphy herself.)Jean Lenore (Blair) Murphy was born August 6, 1928 in Texola, Oklahoma. One of five children, Jean grew up in western Oklahoma and was educated in the Texola schools. Following graduation, she attended Hill’s Business College in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Sarachon-Hooley Secretarial School in Kansas City, Missouri.
 
She was employed by Jensen-Salsbrty Veterinary Laboratories and Standard Oil Company in the accounting department. Jean met Edward Joseph Murphy in 1950 when he was a student at Kansas City School of Law and they married in September of 1953 at Redemptorist Catholic Church in Kansas City, Missouri. They came to Butler in July of 1955. Edward engaged in the practice of law and Jean was employed at Osage Valley Electric Cooperative as secretary to the manager.
 
Jean was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the Bates County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Butler Public Library board, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, a book review club, and several bridge clubs.
 
Jean was preceded in death by her parents Bevely Hanford and Emma Pearl (Johnson) Blair; her husband Edward in 1986; two brothers and two sisters. Jean is survived by her cherished cousins Tammy Baker of White House, Tennessee and Georgia Gray of Grass Valley, California; nephew Paul (Wati) Henshaw of Vancouver, Washington; and nieces Betty Karst also of Vancouver and Barbara (Chuck) Norman of Terra Haute, Indiana.
